Say Anything Now Available On Your Kindle

For those of you out there who, like me, have joined the ranks of Amazon Kindle users I’d like to announce that a subscription to this blog is now available for your Kindle via Amazon as a part of Newstex’s “Voices from the Right” package.

You can order it here.

We’re already got quite a few subscribers, which surprises me.  I knew that putting SAB on Amazon was in the works, but I didn’t even know it’d been completed yet until today.  So we hadn’t even announced yet and we’ve got subscribers.

If you’re not already a Kindle owner, you should really check it out.  I know ebooks aren’t for everyone, and there was a time when I was pretty skeptical of them myself, but Amazon’s service is pretty wonderful.  Books are easy to download (in most parts of the country they’re delivered wirelessly right to your Kindle the moment you order them though that’s not available where I live just yet), easy to read and (most important of all) on average cheaper than their paper counterparts.

Does this tick you off? Click here to email your elected representatives right here on Say Anything, or comment below.

Rob’s making a big deal about this because HE has a Kindle and I don’t yet.

How much do they cost, Rob? How much is the service, or is it per book? Sorry, I don’t know anything about how this works, but I am definately interested. Can you explain it a little more?

di butler on December 3, 2008 at 12:45 pm

Maybe Di is considering getting me one for Christmas.  That’s not impossible since she doesn’t know me.

The pricing for the Kindle itself is here.

There is no service plan or anything like that.  It has wireless internet access built in for free.

For books, you pay a per-book fee (though you can find a lot of older books in the public domain online for free).  You don’t necessarily have to buy the books from Amazon.  I’ve been buying a lot of older Sci-Fi books from internet book sellers like Baen for very cheap.

For blogs, you do pay a monthly subscription fee.  But it’s very, very cheap.  $1.99, for instance, for SAB and a bunch of other blogs.

I LOVE the idea of the Kindle.

It just seems like a lousy design.

They should let Apple build the next one for them.

Ask him for me too.

It just seems like a lousy design.

That was my only hesitation in buying one, and it’s probably the biggest weakness in the product, but it’s not much of a downside.

The biggest problem is holding/handling the thing without inadvertently pushing buttons.  But you get used to it, and ultimately it’s not much of a problem.

What if you want to loan a book to a friend?

Well, you can assign multiple Kindles to the same Amazon account and share books that way.

And depending on the DRM restrictions on non-Amazon e-books you could just email them the book.  But that would require them to have an ebook reader of their own.

But that is a limitation.

I’ve never shared books much, so I guess that’s not really something that bothers me.

Whistler,

Are you willing to pay Santa Hubby the same way I planned to for the Kindle??? I think you might want to rethink the idea.
