Saxby Chambliss Wins Re-Election Handily

Which I’m sure you all know by now, but what does it mean for Republicans going forward?

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) easily won reelection Tuesday night, trouncing his Democratic challenger in a runoff and thereby ensuring that the GOP will retain the ability to filibuster bills in the Senate.
With 97 percent of precincts reporting, Chambliss held 58 percent of the vote to Jim Martin’s 42 percent.
The result prevents Democrats from controlling the 60 seats in the Senate needed to override Republican filibuster efforts. Democrats have 56 seats, while two independents typically caucus with them. Republicans now have 41 seats and hope to hold one more, in Minnesota, where a recount between Sen. Norm Coleman and Democrat Al Franken remains to be decided.
Chambliss was introduced at his victory party Tuesday night by Republican National Committee Chairman Robert M. “Mike” Duncan as “Mr. 41,” and he declared that Republicans “now have the momentum” after his victory.

I think it’s a little silly to suggest that a Republican winning a run-off race after an election where he didn’t get enough votes to win the first time – an election that saw Republicans in general get trounced – gives the GOP “the momentum.” Clearly, someone is trying to put the proverbial lipstick on the proverbial pig.
But Chambliss’ overtime win is interesting in that he did one heck of a lot better without Obama at the top of the ticket than he did with Obama at the top of the ticket. Which indicates that the Democrats seem to be a one-man team at this point. Without Obama on the court their ability to win elections drops significantly.

I listened to NPR’s coverage of this election this morning, and was left with the impression that Saxby barely squeeked by after being (I’m pretty sure they said) bruised by Martin.

WAAAAHHHH!!! say the cons. “We can’t get fair treatment!” “NPR doesn’t like us!”

We’re simply stating a fact; you’re the screamer here. NPR, since it takes public money, should be non-partisan, so that’s a legitimate gripe. In other words, as usual, you have nothing.

    Zel,

Didn’t mean to sound like I was lecturing you on how the vote works in Ga, I just saw in another thread you live in Ga, too. I don’t always do pollwork, my mother is in charge of a bunch of that stuff on a national level, has been for like 30 something years. she got me involved. I like it sometimes, others I just want to shank some folks. what part of ga are you in? I am just outside of ATL to the north.

NPR bites. I would like to listen to David Sedaris, the author, he is on there a good bit, but I don’t, because I boycotted them years ago for their one sided views. Hey, can you imagine how they would have survived w/o tax money? I also got sick of everytime I tried to turn this crap on there was a fund-raising marathon. They would never make it w/o donations and tax $$s.

    Zel,

We have the 50 plus 1 consensus deal here. always thought it was stupid. I knew that the blacks and hispanics wouldn’t flock out to vote. A vast majority of them had never voted before, and were just coming out to vote for Obama. I worked the polls, and I bet I had 1,000 of them asking me if they had to vote for the other people on the ballot besides Obama. I could have talked them into marking all Repubs, but I of course didn’t. I just said well you can pick other Democrats besides Mr. Obama. They totally didn’t care one way or another. The same with the college kid groups.

di, you’re so right about NPR … I boycott them as well as a lot of others. Heck, I’m still boycotting Heinz ketchup and all their other products b/c of the Kerrys. It’s getting to the point where I’ll have to stop watching movies, etc. :)

I don’t know if I could handle working the polls, you have my highest regards for that. I think all the blood in my body would shoot out through my eyes and my head would pop off.

Yep! And, it’s typically the liberals who scream and cry and whine and moan about everything. Every single liberal I personally know, is a hypocrite.

Well, you know if the ridiculous FAIRNESS DOCTRINE, the one wanted by the liberals, not conservatives, becomes a fact of life, then NPR will have to go – no matter how much money they raise.

Hi, Di ~ I didn’t think you were lecturing, but rather showing empathy and agreement! :) Also, by the way, my very best friend’s name is “Di.” I’m glad to see you here, I thought I was the only girl here for a while – am so new that it took me a while to catch on that everyone wasn’t “dino” who had that square smiley thing. :)
(I laugh like crazy when I see people refer to him, I think it’s him, as “Old Gregg.”)

It’d sure be crazy if you were living next door to me!
I am also north of ATL – about 45 minutes from downtown, about 30 minutes from Helen and I’m surrounded by what used to be beautiful Lake Lanier! Now it’s just a mud puddle of sorts … and, of course, you know, Obama prior to be elected, BRIBED FLORIDA by saying that he’d ensure more of OUR water to them – gotta preserve those little mussels downstream that the environmentalists love so much! I have a copy of the letter to Obama from Chambliss, Nathan Deal, etc. re: his ignorance of our plight and of actually UNdoing the work of the Corp of Engineers and tenuous, fragile agreement between FL, AL and GA.
Well, as you can see I get off on tangents – my nickname is Rosanne Rosanna Danna.

God love your Mom for her work! You too for helping out. I know I wouldn’t be able to stand it … I am constantly striving to reign in my intensity – it gets me in trouble – scares people. Ha. ;)

Ha, well of course NPR would say that. As far as I’m concerned, we shouldn’t have had a run-off, they should’ve just rounded up Saxby’s first go round since it was something like 49.8% of the vote. Martin not only isn’t black enough to get the minorities back to the polls, he couldn’t even do it with a bunch of idiot rappers trying to help him morph into blackness.

Do you people ever tire of playing the victim?

Conservatives victimize, ridicule the victims then claim victim status.
