Saturday Night Live Re-Releases Sketch On Internet, This Time Without Criticism Of Democrat

Mark Hemingway:

Saturday Night Live recently did a terrific sketch on the Bailout bill in Congress. Shortly afterward, the sketch — which had been available on NBC’s website — disappeared. The sketch mocked a wealthy couple who profited off subprime mortgages named Herb and Marion Sandler, and it turns out there really is a wealthy couple named Herb and Marion Sandler who made billions off of subprime loans, and speculation was that offending the real Sandlers was the reason for pulling the sketch.
So now the sketch is back up, without any mention of the Sandlers. But as the L.A. Times notes, what’s really curious is that the re-edited sketch removed any satirical references to Barney Frank’s involvement in creating the economic crisis

Well that’s convenient.
Here’s video of the skit before it got yanked.
Here’s the skit as it is now:

I had actually started to like Saturday Night Live again this election season. Their satire was both funny and even-handed. But I just lost a lot of respect for them over this.

Video not available, but I saw the old version.

I thought that the best part was when George Soros was captioned: “Owner, Democrat party”.

Wow…even when the media sees the truth it refuses to tell it.

I don’t mind taking out the Sandlers, after all NBC might have some legal liability there. However it’s inexcusable for them to yank the reference to Barny F’s malfeasance in the roots in the problem.

George Orwell would be proud of them.

    Quel Surprise!

I liked the Soros part, but I think the Yuppies were pretty funny, too. “We did it out of greed!”

What’s sad is that they don’t get that it’s both bad politics, bad business and bad for thier particular art form to do this. The reason movies like Blazing Saddles is a classic is becausse Mel Brooks made fun of everyone.

    Exactly right, Rob.

I don’t mind laughing at myself and/or my ideological fellow travelers. But even if it’s satire that I think is unfair or unfunny, I don’t want it taken off the air.

    I’ll just change the channel.
