Satellite Picture of the Central Park Art
The weird art project takes on a peculiar view from space. Heads up to dialup users: the linked picture is approximately two and a half megabytes.
I just don’t get it. I do get angry though when I think of the naked tsunami victims running around who would give anything to be able to wear a piece of cute saffron cloth, but now can’t because these guys wasted $21 million hanging this crap in Central Park. What about all those homeless people? You can’t eat orange colored cloth. And it won’t keep you warm in the winter. Why didn’t they help the homeless or fill a food bank or two instead?
What are these people thinking? There is too much ugliness and hunger in this world to be wasting this much money and time on such a frivolous and meaningless project.
Gosh, Remy, think about how much relief $9Billion might have brought the victims of the tsunami if Bush hadn’t lost it in Iraq.
Or how much healthcare for low-income kids could have been purchased with the $300B (and counting) we’ve wasted in Iraq.
The liberal answer to everything seems to be “you did it too.” OTH, of course the only people complaining about the money we spent are the ones who prefer dictators, despots, madmen, and Stalin to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Get back to me when you want to complain about Kosovo (another war I firmly supported, even though I didn’t like the tactics). You do know the big difference between Kosovo and Iraq, don’t you? Those people were white, the Iraqis are brown. Are all liberals racist, or have some renounced their racist ways?
The sarcastic tone in my original post had to do with the NY libs whining about the cost of the Inauguration (which was less than Clinton spent). Perhaps we should talk about all the money wasted on the Grammies, Oscars, and Hollywood. I yearn for the day when Babs Streisand makes a movie and donates all of the money to brown-skinned people throughout the world. My loins ache for the time when “stars” like Ben and J-Lo exchange donations to the poor instead of Bentleys. Jesse Jackson has given more money to his mistress than he has to the poor people of Chicago. When was the last time you saw Michael Moore dishing up soup at the local soup kitchen?
I don’t know if your $330bln figure is accurate, but if it is, that works out to $14,000 per freed & liberated Iraqi. It was a cost well worth bearing, and will do more good for this world than any piece of saffron cloth in Central Park ever will.
"The liberal answer to everything seems to be “you did it too.â€?”
No, Remy, the liberal answer to everything is to do what’s honest and right.
The Central Park Art was privately funded; IOW, it wasn’t paid for by taxpayer monies.
OTOH, every American has been taxed for the quagmire in Iraq that based on a lie. Additionally, there are about 1600 Americans and their families that paid far more than money.
“(which was less than Clinton spent). “
Untrue.
“we should talk about all the money wasted on the Grammies, Oscars, and Hollywood.”
Not taxpayer money. Paid for by the industry and the public that directly supports that industry.
From the pictures I’ve seen of this art project I’ve got to say that I don’t see the point. Maybe it looks better up close, but I’m a bit underwhelmed.
That being said, I don’t have a problem with the artists forking over the money to do it nor do I think its all that uncouth for them to spend it on this project instead of sending it to the tsunami victims. After all, they’d been waiting over two decades for this.
When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.
