Sarah Palin Is Not A Religious Extremist

You wouldn’t think the supporters of Barack Obama, who earlier this campaign cycle had to quit the church he’d attended for twenty years once video of his America-damning pastor were made public, would want to go after anyone over the charge of religious extremism.  But apparently the left has no sense of irony, and now Sarah Palin is being attacked for her membership in an Assemblies of God church.

Sarah Palin often identifies herself simply as Christian.

Yet John McCain’s running mate has deep roots in Pentecostalism, a spirit-filled Christian tradition that is one of the fastest growing in the world. It’s often derided by outsiders and Bible-believers alike.

Palin was baptized Roman Catholic as a newborn. She was then baptized in a Pentecostal Assemblies of God church as a teen and attended that church until six years ago, when she and her family adopted a different home church, an independent evangelical church.

Of course, if anyone would have bothered to look up the details about the church Sarah Palin and her family actually attends (and the reasons they gave for choosing that church) we learn that there’s nothing really all that extreme about their religious beliefs.

One of the musical directors at the church, Adele Morgan, who has known Ms. Palin since the third grade, said the Palins moved to the nondenominational Wasilla Bible Church in 2002, in part because its ministry is less “extreme” than Pentecostal churches like the Assemblies of God, which practice speaking in tongues and miraculous healings.

“A lot of churches are about music and media and having a big profile,” Ms. Morgan said. “We are against that. That is why it is so attractive to politicians because they can just sit there and be safe.”

“We’ve gotten a lot of their people when the other churches get too extreme,” Ms. Morgan continued. However, she added, “If you lift your hands when we’re singing, we’re not going to shoot you down.”

If you’re keeping track at home, it took the national media less than a week to glom on to the alleged extremism of Sarah Palin’s church.

How long was Barack Obama in the race before his membership Trinity United Church?  An extremist mega-church situated right in the heart of Chicago?

Double standards are lovely, aren’t they?

OF course the religious extremist point would be jabbed at her! They haven’t been able to make anything else stick. What next? Sarah Palin has real core values that offset the commie, Socialist way of life the Dems “Hope” to impose upon the American people.

Rob: You just don’t understand leftiespeak!  To them a “religious extremist” is anyone who is a Christian.  A “social conservative” is anyone with good moral values.  Hope I cleared that up for you.  /humor

Only Democrats are allowed to be Christians. Everybody who isn’t a Democrat is a “Christofascist” who wants to erase the boundaries of church and state and implement a theocracy.

Just ask the “reality based” community. They’ll tell you. Nevermind the hypocrisy.

Are you kidding me!!  She is an extremeist and a very radical one at that stating that jesus in his time was acting from a position of war and that the war in iraq is a way to act out gods will even though the war war wrong to begin with incase people forget, they did not have the things we were all lied to about to start this war.THEY WERE WRONG AND KNEW IT !! Are you nuts. Using her political status inchurch to promote her social and political agenda by sking them to pray for things involved in politics. You people better wake up

Using her political status inchurch to promote her social and political agenda by sking them to pray for things involved in politics.

Rev. Wright, Jesse Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton, and more on the leftie side do that all the time.  Obama used his church connection until it was proved to be racist and Marxist. Both Gore and Clinton gave talks in churches, and then there’s Al’s Buddhist Temple fundraising fiasco.

You’re a typical leftie hypocrite, Anthony.

Palin’s appeal is far broader than the religious right.

I’m a non-religious, libertarian-oriented, Republican of Jewish and Italian heritage.

My wife is a registered Democrat, and a practicing Lutheran. She was planning to sit out the election because she doesn’t trust Obama.

We’re both excited about voting for Palin.

I’m with Anthony!  You folks are bananas if you don’t see how extreme Palin is. Perhaps you forget that not everyone in this country is Christian.  As Americans we HAVE to respect those who practice faiths that are different from ours, and those who are agnostic or atheist.  To put someone in the white house who sees Iraq as some kind of holy undertaking will diminish our standing in the world even more than Bush has already done.  We live in a world where we NEED other countries and other cultures for our survival, so we need a president and vice president who don’t see their world view as the ONLY world view.  Because Palin believes her will IS God’s will ("Pray for the Alaska pipeline...?!!) she is just as extreme as any Muslim terrorist.
Be afraid… be very afraid!

The usual extremist leftie lies.  Where are Sarah’s beheading videos?  Where are her suicide bombers?  Are there any Christians killing their daughters for “family honor”?  Are any Christians strapping bombs on children and sending them out to kill innocent people?  Are there any Christians promising to wipe an entire country off the map?
