And she was. She is. She has been all along, as she points out in her latest Facebook posting:

No one is certain of what’s in the bill, but Senator Jim DeMint spotted one shocking revelation regarding the section in the bill describing the Independent Medicare Advisory Board (now called the Independent Payment Advisory Board), which is a panel of bureaucrats charged with cutting health care costs on the backs of patients – also known as rationing. Apparently Reid and friends have changed the rules of the Senate so that the section of the bill dealing with this board can’t be repealed or amended without a 2/3 supermajority vote. Senator DeMint said:
“This is a rule change. It’s a pretty big deal. We will be passing a new law and at the same time creating a senate rule that makes it out of order to amend or even repeal the law. I’m not even sure that it’s constitutional, but if it is, it most certainly is a senate rule. I don’t see why the majority party wouldn’t put this in every bill. If you like your law, you most certainly would want it to have force for future senates. I mean, we want to bind future congresses. This goes to the fundamental purpose of senate rules: to prevent a tyrannical majority from trampling the rights of the minority or of future congresses.”
In other words, Democrats are protecting this rationing “death panel” from future change with a procedural hurdle. You have to ask why they’re so concerned about protecting this particular provision. Could it be because bureaucratic rationing is one important way Democrats want to “bend the cost curve” and keep health care spending down?
The Congressional Budget Office seems to think that such rationing has something to do with cost. In a letter to Harry Reid last week, CBO Director Douglas Elmendorf noted (with a number of caveats) that the bill’s calculations call for a reduction in Medicare’s spending rate by about 2 percent in the next two decades, but then he writes the kicker:
“It is unclear whether such a reduction in the growth rate could be achieved, and if so, whether it would be accomplished through greater efficiencies in the delivery of health care or would reduce access to care or diminish the quality of care.”
Though Nancy Pelosi and friends have tried to call “death panels” the “lie of the year,” this type of rationing – what the CBO calls “reduc[ed] access to care” and “diminish[ed] quality of care” – is precisely what I meant when I used that metaphor.

When the government gets in the business of making decisions about our access to health care, and that’s exactly what this health care bill is all about, then the government is in the business of making life and death decisions for us. If they’re going to ration care, and that’s exactly what they’re going to be doing, then they’re going to deny some people coverage that could have helped them live longer.
That’s a death panel, as much as the liberals may hate to admit it.

    Yes, she said exactly what you posted, that does not mean it was not inclusive of any Government Panel deciding what health care we are “allowed” to have based on some factor (age, cost, disability/deformity, etc). The numbers prove that lowering the recommended age for Mammagrams saved lives. I can understand an argument against recommended Mammagrams but you should still encourage any woman over 30 to do self tests. Have a physician do spot checks on breast tissue (at the same time as lymphnode checks during a regualr checkup) and allow mammagrams to be performed if the doctor and patient agree that there is a concern.

    It is drawing a line in the sand and allowing insurers (including govt plans) to reduce benefits based on a government study (thus releasing them from liability) that makes these panels dangerous.

    QLI and VST are not far off in our future. The UK already implements similar systems. “Death Panels” will make those decisions arbitrarilly and beforehand, regardless of what they are actually called.

    Let’s say Congress passes a law that effectively destroys supplies of halal/kosher food in the country and prohibits importation of as well CONSUMPTION of it.
    Any thoughts on how that jives with Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof in regards to Jews and Muslims?

    It would have been both honest and reasonable. But in order to do that, be honest and reasonable, you would have to admit Palin lied, and you won’t do that.

    The democratic party of today is ideologically identical with the communist party. They totally value primacy of the state over the individual. They will give the death panel some Orwellian name like the Enhanced Life Function Board. The nice bureaucrats on the ELF Board will assign everyone a QOLI number based on your present health and lifestyle. This Quality Of Life Index number will be adjusted periodically based on current health, age, habits, deformities, mental health, etc. If you fall below a number the government determines to be a debit to the health care plan you will be told to go home and die for the good of the party which is the same as the government to these ideologues. And the more financially untenable the health plan becomes the more they will adjust your QOLI down. Pretty soon we’ll be like Michael Parks in Logan’s Run. When your QOLI gets too low they’ll hunt you down and kill you. For the good of the party, which is the same as the government.

    Despite hanni’s obvious spinning and lying, any centrally controlled system must have panels/committees that decide the allocation of everything. Single payer is central control, as that single payer decides the allocation of everything within the system. This includes who lives(gets treatment) and who dies(is denied treatment). Sarah told the simple truth, with no need for further explanation. Under single payer(the Dem wet dream for the healthcare industry), there will be death panels, as there will be panels to decide everything else, including how many Q-tips are to be supplied and how many bandages are needed.
    This extremely clunky and inhuman method of allocation is why the Soviet Union was a total failure. No bureaucratic panel can match the speed and wisdom of the free market.
    Just because the leftie liars aren’t honest enough to call their death panels by their proper name, doesn’t mean they won’t exist.

    A future senate can change the procedural rules (without a supermajority), so it’s not so much a hurdle for future senates as much as a roadblock to prevent it being removed from the current bill.

    The level of health care provided by government managed health care is based on how many years of fruitful life one has left. If you are 40 (and can expect 35 more years of life) you will receive a higher level of care than if you 80 (and have maybe 5 years left). If you go to the controversial mammography recommendations, they were using exactly these sorts of criteria. Their study here.

    It’s not a lie, you’re just not bright enough to figure out why it is true. And we are all going to take this up the a$$ because you liberals are too partisan to realize you are pushing a really dumb idea.

    I am not sure what you are asking – Many people have pronounced global warming a religion so does that make the EPA in violation because they establish national doctrine for religion. Would the seperation clause apply. As far as the food and meals, I think it would be incumbent on you to provide for yourself. Produce your own Halil and Kosher meals.

    I am sorry for being unclear.
    (Just to clarify EPA, as far as I am aware is the extension of Executive branch, so technically First Amendment doesn’t apply. Of course there are other issues there. But this is not the scope of the question)

    What my question was, (for everyone), how would it not be a violation of the 1st Amendment, if Congress passed a law that prohibits citizens production, importation and consumption of the halal/kosher foods. Notice particularly the last part – consumption. (I am not in any way asking for government to create those.) It is a theoretical question and I am going somewhere else with it.
    Hope that clarifies it a bit.

Is it not a fact that the “health care reform” scam your side is perpetrating involves reducing the quality and quantity of healt care services currently available to the majority in order to accomodate the 25-30 million being “brought in” to the system? Is there any doubt that the Obama/Reid/Pelosi plan will involve rationing of medical care services? Or that it will be panels of bureacrats who will decide the ultimate advisabiity of treatment?

    When the Left’s Ayatollahs of Autocracy can come forth with an honest proposal, one that does what they say it will, and costs what they say it will cost, I’ll be first in line to support it. But this bill, being rammed thru in the middle of the night, is nothing more than several thousand pages of lies, interspersed with accounting fraud that would make Jeffery Skilling, Gary Winnick, and Bernie Madoff look like rank amateurs.

    Simple, legislation has already been enacted (slipped through in other bills). We see the result when the “Health” advisory board recommended changing the age for mammograms. That becomes a death sentence for many women who would have had the cancer noticed early when treatment can be effective.

    Hanni, you really should evaluate the actions not the words. The progressives are real good at phrasing their positions in “nice” words yet when one looks at the actions and there resultant consequences, one will notice that there is no connections between the too. aka LIES, similar to the way you try to play with words here.

    The US government acts based on centralized decisions: One size fits the entire country. Private insurance companies represent a much smaller number of individuals, and decision making is spread between the doctors office and the insurance company.

    I much prefer the system where the doctors who are treating you are involved in the decision about what care you ultimately receive.

    The two approaches have almost nothing in common.

    As I have always pointed out on the supposed death panels in Alaska, the poor people who died were being treated. Virtually all of them had already been approved for services and were in the process of being evaluated to see what services they needed.

    And out of the 254 who died, how many were getting care? It’s a pretty high number. 227.

    That means that out of everyone who died, ~89.4% (Rounded up, for when I’m accused of being a liar) were. Receiving. Care. From the state.

    Read the story again, moron. It states that there are two programs from the PRIVATE contractors. So they are not receiving care from the state, they are funded by the state. They are only receiving care from the state if the nurses and home care services are performed by state employees, which is not the case.

    So when you say 89.4% are getting care from the state, you are wrong.

    Further, there are TWO, count them (2) typed of services. Home personal care and home HEALTH care. So if 227 people died waiting to get reassessed, then that means you need to prove which were getting HEALTH care.

    You can’t on one hand say Palin said they would get some HEALTH CARE services cut back and claim it’s a death panel, and then claim some HEALTH CARE services are getting cut back and are not a death panel…….just because you are partisan, and want to protect your Dear Leader Palin.

    You see, personal care is not the same thing as HEALTH CARE.

    I mean, I don’t even know what to say.

    Lastly, you missed the most basic point. It said ONE person was in a nursing home. Where in the article does it say all the other 27 were in a nursing home???

    The article says specifically that MOST are getting SERVICES…..but what KIND of SERVICES……personal care???? You see….that is different than HEALTH CARE!!!

    As to the backlog, most of the people waiting for an assessment already are getting services but are overdue for their annual check by a nurse to see if they need more or less help, state officials said.

    And even if those people were getting some health care services, if they didn’t get some because they were waiting for a panel of people to determine what level of care they needed then they are denied some health care….and how does that differ from what you claim Palin said?

    Since those numbers came from your link, you have nothing here. 90% of people were receiving care. The 27 people you are talking about ARE IN THE OTHER TEN PERCENT!

    Which means, as I said above, the other 90% were getting care. You didn’t refute anything.

    Except if they were actually receiving health care, how in the hell is it a problem in the first place???? The issue is because they were not getting health care…….not to mention that 27 died waiting for…..something.

    227 died waiting to be reassessed, which means they were probably just getting personal care, not HEALTH CARE. And if some were getting HEALTH CARE, they didn’t get reassessed and died as a result, it claims.

    And what is an IT middle guy??? I’m the guy talking to the customer about their needs and providing the consulting on solutions that they haven’t thought of to solve their problems. And I am the guy that has to show that it’s better than the other products they are looking at. And as a result, it makes my company money….a lot of it.

    So, if listening to people’s problems is my job, (and getting them to tell me more about what they believe is their problem) and helping them solve the problem by making recommendations of technology they didn’t think of is the important part of the job……then it’s sort of hard to say I am an idiot who is not paid to think. It’s also hard to claim I am a lying moron if my job is to be a trusted advisor and the result is my clients trust me.

    Yeah, sitting in front of CEO’s, CIO’s and talking to them about how to reduce costs, modernize their infrastructure and consolidate their infrastructure is being some IT middle guy, then I am perfectly content.

    Working with the DOD is much different, and I can’t talk about that….but.

    If having to certify, re-certify myself about new technology and pass exams on a quarterly basis makes me stupid and an idiot……paint me the fool.

    Since those numbers came from your link, you have nothing here. 90% of people were receiving care. The 27 people you are talking about ARE IN THE OTHER TEN PERCENT!

    So I never claimed the service was a nursing home, nor is that even close to what I said. The stated purpose of the service is to let people live on their own, without going to nursing homes. And the only thing I mentioned about nursing homes was that, under the anecdotal evidence of your article, most of these people are in nursing homes waiting to be assessed.

    I did note however, that, having no numbers, that was not to be assumed.

    So, in other words, you weren’t able to debate anything I said, and had to make strawmen arguments. Far from claiming no one died while waiting (a stupid claim to be sure), I pointed out that most people died while getting care. Far from claiming that the service was a nursing home (where you got that…hell if I know), I pointed out that the majority of their examples were waiting in nursing homes. So not only did you erect strawmen to battle, you did it poorly, and STILL lost.

    As I have always pointed out on the supposed death panels in Alaska, the poor people who died were being treated. Virtually all of them had already been approved for services and were in the process of being evaluated to see what services they needed.

    While it’s a shame that the beaurocracy is so inefficient and slow, but since no one was being denied service, and many of those on the list weren’t even asking for medical care, your point is moot.

    And, as Russ has pointed out, WHY they get denied care is details. She claimed they’d be denied care, and they will be. That the panels in the board were established to determine value of life helps her cause too.
