Hmm…

Terrorists

This picture released by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement on Sunday, July 24, 2005, shows Islamic Jihad activist Yahea Abu Taha, 22, right, and Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades activist Tareq Yassin, 23, getting ready prior to attacking an Israeli target at the Kissufim crossing, between Israel and the Gush Katif block of settlements in the southern Gaza Strip early Sunday. According to Islamic Jihad these two Palestinian gunmen opened fire on an Israeli vehicle traveling on the main road connecting the Gaza Strip settlements to Israel early Sunday, killing two Israelis and wounding four others, rescue workers said. Pay attention to the bolded words.
Now here’s a picture of the “Israeli target” that was attacked by these two “activists.”

Victims

And a less-rosy view of what really happened to them:

The army closed the Gush Katif junction to Palestinian traffic hours after the Kols were murdered and five Israelis wounded by two Palestinian gunmen who opened fire at Israeli cars traveling on the Kissufim road, the main access to Gush Katif.
Dov, 58, and Rahel, 53, had spent Shabbat with her sister in Ganei Tal, and were returning to Jerusalem.
Thousands attended their funeral at Jerusalem’s Har Menuhot cemetery on Sunday night. The couple are survived by their three children, Yehonathan, 15, Tamar, 17 and Hila, 24.

The Associated Press passes the two men at the top of this post off as freedom fighters. Activists. Soldiers who are simply fighting an invader.
In reality they’re tyrants. Terrorists. Thugs. Cowards who, instead of fighting against an armed opponent, chose instead to bushwhack a middle-aged couple returning from a party.
You can email the Associated Press here. Be sure to ask them why the feel the need to glorify the actions of murderous cowards.

    Ah.

You asked for a reason why they were not attacking ‘armed opponents’. I supplied it. That does not act as a justification – any more me than me supplying a reason why Hitler might have invaded Poland would be a justification for his actions.

Atleast they’re finally starting to wear uniforms.

    Rob –
Please elaborate – what are you referring to as a justification?

  • Mark

I suppose one reason why they did not target the Israeli military (I will assume this is the ‘armed opponent’ of which you speak – let us not forget that many settlers are themselves heavily armed) is that the army is (in one sense) on their side – the Israeli military is forcibly removing settlers from the Gaza strip.

They should post this picture in New York and tell the police to search people who look like this and to stop wastimg time searching 16 year old white girls.

Fair enough, I see what you were getting at. Though, really, I didn’t as for a reason as to why they were murdering civilians. I stated the fact that these cowards were murdering civilians.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

So…I suppose that justifies, then, the murder of unarmed civilians?

And isn’t a little bit ridiculous to suggest that the Israeli army is “on the side” of people who resort to murder?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

The way you explained why they may not have attacked the Israeli army seemed to imply that civilians are appropriate targets. Perhaps you didn’t mean it that way, but that’s how I took it.
