Sandra Fluke To Campaign With Obama In Colorado
2:02pm
Can we admit now that the whole Sandra Fluke debacle was a political operation run by the Democrats?
Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown University law student who became a national figure during the debate over the administration’s contraception mandate, will introduce President Obama at a campaign stop in Denver on Wednesday, a campaign spokesman confirmed to The Hill.
Earlier this year, the White House took political heat over the mandate, under which employers’ insurers must provide birth control to their employees without a co-pay. Critics said it was a violation of religious liberty.
What I don’t understand is why Obama would want to campaign next to Sandra Fluke. What Fluke stands for is the idea that entitlement is more important than liberty. Fluke’s position is that if we don’t subsidize her birth control we’re somehow limiting her access to it. Therefore we must provide her and others with free or subsidized contraception, and whatever moral objections we may or may not have to such things are irrelevant.
Put another way, if you don’t subsidize my gun collection irregardless of whatever personal feelings or mores you may harbor about them, you’re limiting my right to guns. That’s the logic these people are applying, except that they would never apply it to something like guns.
Now, I have no doubt that is the sort of thing Obama stands for, but is that really what he wants to be reminding voters of?
