Rush Limbaugh Is On Board With Fred

It’s not an outright endorsement, but it sure sounds like Rush is on Fred’s side:

RUSH: …the genuine moderate as opposed to conservative aspects of three of the top-tier, four of the top-tier candidates were on full-fledged display last night. There was one candidate who did not display any moderateness or liberalism or have any of his past forays into those areas displayed, and that candidate was Fred Thompson. … …we have a campaign now where most of the candidates are not genuine conservatives. They may be saying they are, but in their past they have done some things that are not conservative in any way, shape, manner, or form — and I think a lot of those things are being overlooked even by friends of mine in the conservative media because the obsession is Hillary.  […]

While everybody is talking about Fred Thompson, “He’s too lazy. He’s too lackadaisical. He doesn’t seem to have whole lot of energy.” Fine and dandy. I’m not going to argue with people about your perceptions of attitudes and so forth. I will say this. I don’t think anybody would get into this mess running for the presidency, the media and all of these things. You can’t imagine what these people go through. You wouldn’t want to go through it, and I can’t imagine somebody put themselves through it if they really don’t want it. You know, one of the arguments about Fred Thompson is, “Well, I can’t see the fire in his belly.” Well, he’s got a different personality than the others. We’ll just have to see how all this shakes out. But those are the high points that I took.

The last points about Thompson’s campaign and desire are particularly well-made.

Rob,

You forgot the funniest part of Rush’s Article - the Title:

Moderates Dominate GOP Debate
Only Fred Sounded Conservative

“Sadly, all our top tier candidates are moderates.”

Yep, Rush doesn’t even think Thompson is a “top-tier” candidate.  Now THAT’s funny.

Here’s the point though.  Thompson IS conservative.  He just isn’t qualified.

I’ll give you another shot at this Rob.

If you can name for me 5 things Thompson has done in his professional career that qualify him to be the nation’s Chief Executive, I’ll vote for him.

Hey Rob,

Let’s play a game of “fair-and-balanced” here.  I’ll name 5 things that bug me about Romney and you name 5 things that bug you about Thompson.  I mean hell, nobody’s perfect, right?:

Ok, here are mine:

1. I hate the sniping between Romney and Giuliani.  It’s childish and annoying.
2. Sometimes Romney tries to be too politic and he dodges the question.  When asked whether he supported “water-boarding” on FoxNews today, Romney said, “I don’t think we need to be telling our enemies WHAT we will do...” That was a dodge - I didn’t like it.
3. I hate the way he tends to shake his head no when he talks - it’s annoying.  I notice his sons do it to.  Maybe a genetic tendency?  Who knows.
4. He tries too hard to be everything to everyone.  He needs to just come out and say “this is what I stand for.  If you like it, vote for me and I’ll do it.”
5. Umm, let’s see, I’m runnin out of steam here.  Ok, he uses too big of words sometimes that the average American idiot can’t understand.

So, as you can see, I don’t like everything about Romney, but I think all around, he is the best person for the job.

Ok, your turn…

Hey Romney troll?  You keep asking that question, but none of the answers are ever good enough.

You know what Thompson’s done to qualify him for President?  He meets the requirements set out in the Constitution and he’s been more of a consistent conservative than any other candidate in the field.

I’ve discovered the genius in Fred’s strategy.

Rope’a’dope.

Let Romney and Rudy weaken eachother so badly that they are brought down to Huckabee’s level, then all 3 will be shown for the fraudulent liberals they are.

Just sit back, take a few hits here and there, but basicly let your over-eager opponents fight it out amongst themselves so that you only competition for the conservative base ends up being Ron Paul - who unless he has a time machine and can bring back a couple million Republicans from 1938 doesn’t have any chance anyways.

Anyone who actually wants to be president, should be disqualified.  Fred will end up being the “fine, I guess I’ll do it candidate” and wipe the floor with Hillary.

Rob,

Really, could you point me to all the “answers” that have been given to my request for qualifications?

And no, being “conservative” isn’t a qualification.  It is a political philosophy.

Lol, so very lame Rob.  I told you I would actually vote for your guy if you could convince me he is qualified and here we are at YOUR blog and you can’t even do it.

And by the way, Thompson is THE MOST CONSISTENT CONSERVATIVE?  Oh really?

1. He refused to promise he would not raise taxes if elected.
2. He refused to sign onto the pro-life plank of the Republican Party.
3. The man doesn’t even go to church for god’s sake!

Seriously though Rob, it is pathetic you cannot sell me on your man’s qualifications.

I have been a corporate headhunter for 25 years and I would be ashamed to send Thompson’s resume in for a job as President of the USA.

My client would call me and ask, “What the hell is this?  This man has no experience!”.

It’s ok, he won’t last past the first week of voting.  Even Rush doesn’t consider him to be top tier.

Spoof,

Winning friends?  Lol, here?  Why the hell would I want to have any friends here?  You people are an embarrassment.

You can’t even explain why your man is qualified for the Presidency other than “the constitution says he is”, and he is “the most conservative” and that second part isn’t even true according to the latest Rasmussen poll where Romney beat him by 6 points.

Pathetic, both of you.

There are 3 men in this race qualified for the WH.

Giuliani - too liberal on social issues.
Huckabee - too liberal on fiscal issues and immigration.
Romney - just right.

Hey, Bill/Mitt, if you aren’t trying to make friends here, you are the very definition of a troll.  Why not go stroke the egos of your fellow neo-socialist, “HEALTH CARE FOR ALL...OR WE’LL FINE YOU HALF TO DEATH!!1!,” Ro-ro-turds wherever they loiter?  You are as bad, if not worse than, the Paulettes.

It’s probably not a good idea to sell Romney this way. Leave this kind of backhanded slap at America negativity to the Democrats.

Sorry guys, I’m just doubled over with laughter here.

I asked for 5 qualifications (actual work experience) that Thompson has to be the nation’s Chief Executive and TEN COMMENTS LATER, still not a single qualification given.  Amazing.

You people are the lamest supporters of a candidate in history.  Spoof thinks he can win the argument by by calling me a “shill”.  Rob thinks he has won by calling me a “troll”.

Whatever I am, I can at least give a coherent argument on why my candidate is qualified for the job!

Truly the most pathetic, anemic display of political ineptitude I have ever witnessed.

Spoof,

You want to shut me up?  It’s easy.  Give me 5 examples of working experience by Thompson that qualify him for the White House.

You say I am “full of excrement”.  Ok, can you please point out the lies I told about Thompson in my posts here?  Every single comment is backed up by documented facts.  Go ahead - I won’t hold my breath.

I even went so far as to say 5 things I don’t like about Romney.  You guys couldn’t do the same about Thompson because you are so damned insecure about your candidate.

You are also afraid to admit that there are 5 things you dont like but you still can’t name one qualification.

Work on your reading comprehension, Shill. I never said I wanted to shut you up! (Other than your shameless, baseless slurs against War Hero John McCain!)
Every time you come here gushing over the latest Romney talking points, it’s tiresome but you have the right to your own stupid opinions, even if you express them so poorly!
I’m just struggling not to equate Romney’s morality with yours, (you being his biggest cheerleader) because then, I might have a problem with him. Right now, he’s just part of the pack, your feeble flacking notwithstanding.

BTW, there may be treatment for your war hero John McCain Derangement Syndrome. CHeck with your doctor!

Shill: I’ve already pointed out the lies you’ve told about War Hero John McCain! What evidence have you given (other than the poll du jour, and THEN only the ones that favor your candidate, NOT the ones that show him badly trailing nationally!) that you are not lying now?
Is it your extreme fear of every other candidate that seems to drive you to carefully examine (and try to tear down) everyone but Mitt? Is that why you spread falsehoods about war hero John McCain? Is that why you cannot recognize the heroic efforts and war record of another candidate because you believe it would diminish Mitt by comparison?
Your slavish adulation of Mitt’s talking points memos may impress your tiny mind, but some of us will wait until he’s won an actual primary before acknowledge the legend in Shill’s mind that is Mitt Romney!

golfman,

You stated some of Thompson’s politcal philosophies.  You didn’t name ONE SINGLE BIT OF EXPERIENCE THAT QUALIFIES HIM.  Not one.  Not a SINGLE ONE!

Do you even understand the difference?

Give me examples of multi-billion dollar entreprises of any kind he has managed.  Name one single bit of major legislation he authored.  Name a major civic accomplishment of his. Describe a multi-billion dollar budget he has been held responsible for.  Explain to me about the millions of American lives he has been entrusted with safe-guarding.

Please God, tell me ANYTHING this man has actually done that a President does?  Show me any track record at all.

I’m sorry but just being “conservative” (which is in great doubt) ain’t enough.

Giuliani, Romney and Huckabee have been there before.  We know how they manage.  We know how they lead.  Thompson is a crap shoot.

And what is the most telling sign that Thompson is not ready to lead?  He has NEVER sought to before.  Can you imagine, being President of the United States is your FIRST job managing anything at all outside of a Congressional Office staff?

Last point.  If the pathetic manner in which Thompson has run his campaign to this point is any bindication of his effectiveness as President, God help us all.

Bill Mitchell on November 30, 2007 at 08:59 am

Fred had a very good debate. It will be interesting to see if he can translate that into better poll numbers in Iowa and New Hampshire. He needs to do well in those states to stay competitive.
