Rush Limbaugh Was Disappointed In CPAC

The event, billed as the largest annual gathering of conservatives in the country, is no longer representative of the conservative movement.

To some extent I agree. As much as I sympathize at times with Ron Paul and the Campaign for Liberty movement, their behavior at CPAC (which I’ve witnessed first hand at other events) isn’t doing Paul, the C4L organization or the limited government cause any favors. Whatever they may think of Dick Cheney, screaming “war criminal” at him from the audience is going to turn a lot of people off.

Also, the concept of CPAC may be a lot less important than in years past. The internet has made mass communication easy. One needn’t go to great distances and expense any more to attend events at which to communicate, organize and network.

That said, I’m rather happy with CPAC’s embrace of homosexual conservatives. I think it’s a recognition of where the limited government movement is heading. And the nation as a whole is far more focused on fiscal issues than social issues these days, and CPAC likely reflects that.
