Rudy Stretching The Stats?

A reader emails:

In almost every appearance as he campaigns for the Republican presidential nomination, Rudolph W. Giuliani cites a fusillade of statistics and facts to make his arguments about his successes in running New York City and the merits of his views.

Discussing his crime-fighting success as mayor, Mr. Giuliani told a television interviewer that New York was “the only city in America that has reduced crime every single year since 1994.” In New Hampshire this week, he told a public forum that when he became mayor in 1994, New York “had been averaging like 1,800, 1,900 murders for almost 30 years.” When a recent Republican debate turned to the question of fiscal responsibility, he boasted that “under me, spending went down by 7 percent.”

All of these statements are incomplete, exaggerated or just plain wrong.

Here’s the MSNBC report to back it up:

I like FRED.  He is the only true conservative in the race. I just think Fred would fight and defend our principals best. Rudy is a nice enough guy. BUT I can’t seem to grasp what he is for or against on the issues??? From what I can see he is not a true conservative.

Zsa Zsa:  “I like Fred” Well, so do I! Thats why I don’t criticize his positions or views in a public forum. I like Rudy. I like McCain. I like Huckabee. I want one of them to be the next President, because the alternative is too frightening to contemplate.
I just wish we would stop doing the left’s job for them by taking turns bashing our candidates. The whose-a-real-conservative litmus-test applied here is self-defeating. Who of us would Want Clinton, Obama or Edwards in the White House over McCain, Guiliani, Romney, Huckabee or Thompson?

pparets… I agree. Any of the Republican candidates would be better than any of the Dems. AND I agree we should leave the bashing to the Dems. We have PLENTY to bash all the libs with!

Zsa Zsa: Wow! Nice to know that someone else sees it. If you want to know how far some in our party would go, check out GUILIANI FOES PANICKY IN GOP in todays Washington Times.  http://www.washingtontimes.com.
Listen! I am a conservative, but I realize that the dems are poised to control congress AND the White House.... and that means the next 2 or 3 supreme court justices will be liberals! Would any of us really want THAT over a Guiliani victory!!? The nihilistic self-destruct mode we are currently in must stop.

Every time I take a look at the so called Democrat candidates it is frightening! AND each one is worse than the next. I really think they should call themselves Socialist candidates and quit trying to fool themselves and anyone else who wants to believe it…
