Romney Can’t Beat Hillary…In Alabama

The deepest-red of the deep-red states in the south, it’s no surprise that the GOP is tops of Hillary in Alabama.  But look at this breakdown of the three top GOP candidates.

Giuliani beats Hillary by 11 points.

Thompson beats Hillary by 13 points.

Romney beats Hillary by...one point.  Which is within the margin of error.

If Romney is questionable in a race against Hillary in Alabama of all places, what makes anyone think the guy can take a swing state?

Guiliani’s numbers have actually gone UP after he announced that ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IS NOT ILLEGAL.

Face it, people in places like AL just aren’t paying attention to this election right now.

I promise you, 50% of respondents probably have no idea who Romney even is.

In every state where Romney has spent a lot of time and money, he is running way ahead.

To know him is to love him.

If he wins the first 4 primaries in a walk, will anyone be able to stop him?

Stop it.  You’re going to make Hugh Hewitt cry.

Romney, in Alabama terms, is a Yankee from Massachusetts.  That’s enough right there.  In fact, the actual term is “damnyankee”.

I wonder if they need to redo their numbers. I can’t see Hillary doing well in the south with her anti_gun, pro abortion stance.

Bill - while you might think people “in places like Alabama” aren’t paying attention to politics (we are busy copulating with our relatives and chewing tobacco) I must disagree.  Here in north Alabama Fred Thompson has the lion’s share of support (he was born here after all).  Ron Paul actually has a lot of visible support on the ground.

There is virtually no excitement for Romney, however, in local political circles.  I think he seems too much like a cyborg to most people.  Our state treasurer is the chair of Romney’s campaign in AL and I would characterize the reception to her endorsement of Romney at a recent GOP meeting as sterile.
