Romney: “The idea that somehow making a business profitable is different than helping people is really a foreign idea.”

What has always stuck in my craw about class warfare is the idea that “the rich” are somehow taking from the rest of us. This idea that they aren’t doing or paying their “fair share.”
The simple reality is that, short of winning the lottery or robbing a bank, you can’t get rich without creating prosperity for other people. Most businesses require you to hire people. All businesses require supplies that create commerce for other business. And of course, the only way you can profit is by providing other people with goods and/or services they want.
Which is the point Romney makes in this interview with Piers Morgan yesterday. “The idea that somehow making a business profitable is different than helping people is really a foreign idea,” says Romney. “Because the whole American free enterprise system is associated with creating success, making businesses profitable. That means they can hire more people and grow.”
Exactly.
The government cannot create prosperity. The best a government can do is create a free market environment which gives individuals the opportunity to create their own prosperity.
Whether we like it or not, that is how the world works.
