Romney picks House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan as his running mate, and in doing so doubles down on Ryan’s fiscal road maps which have become a pinata for the left who have cast the reforms as extremism.

That’s the funny thing about American politics. The “extremists” are the people who helped create a $1 trillion annual budget deficit. The “extremists” aren’t the people who created a situation where 1/3 of the American public is on some form of welfare. The “extremists” aren’t the people who want to perpetuate entitlement programs that have gone off the fiscal rails because that’s the politically expedient thing to do.

An extremist, according to our friends on the left and their allies in the media, is someone like Paul Ryan and his proposed budget which takes about 30 years to balance the national budget. Ryan is an extremist because he talks, bluntly, about America’s entitlement status quo bankrupting this country.

Ryan is a welcome addition to Romney’s ticket. He goes a long way toward making this conservative a little more excited about casting a ballot for it. There are people out there who are better on fiscal matters than Ryan, but among the people who Romney might have actually tapped to be VP, he couldn’t have done much better.
