RNC Has Spent $150,000 On Palin Wardrobe, Jewlery

Which, naturally, sparks a “how dare they spend that kind of money when some Americans don’t have a job!” reaction from the media:

The economy is in tatters, the military is engaged in two conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, unemployment is going to rise before it falls and millions live without health care. But the big buzz today surrounds Sarah Palin’s clothing choices. The Republican National Committee has spent $150,000 on the potential vice president’s wardrobe and jewelry, with stops at Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, among other expenses, reports Politico’s Jeanne Cummings.

Meanwhile, Obama is jet-setting around the country in the posh Obama One which comes complete with custom, embroidered leather seats.
But lets get up in arms about the price of Palin’s wardrobe.
This emailer who sent Marc Ambinder a message has it right:

Obama has spent millions on TV ads, pizza, and a pile of other things, as your colleagues have reported. Why, he even bought himself his own TV channel! That is, he has spent millions on creating and presenting an image.
Forgive me if I am wrong, but isn’t Palin’s entire function that of changing the image of the GOP? Sure 150K is a lot for most people, but that will only buy you a 30 second slot on a second rate prime time show, and wouldn’t even buy you even 5 seconds of air time in the Super Bowl.
Yet for that 150K, what have you got? A Palin who shines, who appears on the front page of every newspaper in the country, whose image lingers on the screen in every newscast, and who dazzles foreign leaders when meeting them in person.
For the past eight years, guys like Jon Stewart have had endless riffs on the white male nature of the GOP. Like, what’s the difference between Cheney and the Cryptkeeper? The Cryptkeeper doesn’t scare children…. And what with McCain making even Cheney look flush and hale, the GOP had a serious decrepitude problem.
Seriously, what else is the GOP going to be able to capitalize on with her? The wonkish credentials? The well articulated positions?
For 150K, they bought Extreme Makeover: GOP Edition.
And besides… have you ever watched the Oscars? It’s not hard to find a blue to the bone Democratic actress with a lot more than 150K worth of gear on them.

This is a non-issue. But we’re coming down to a national election, the polls are tightening, and thus the liberals are getting desperate.
By the way, has anyone checked into how much Obama’s wardrobe has cost? Michelle Obama’s? John McCain’s? Maybe $150,000 isn’t out of the ordinary.

“Maybe $150k for clothing is not out of the ordinary”

How far out of touch are you?

I guess you would not be apart of the 95% of U.S. citizens making less than Quarter Million dollars per annually.

It would take “Joe the Plumber” 3-4 years to earn the $150k and 5-8 years to get total earnings to Quarter Million dollars.
But because Uncle Sam is entitled to piece of every earned dollar you have to add time to make up for payroll deductions.
The point is “good paying” jobs would require labor hours measured in years to achieve such numbers.

  • Hungry Bear

You liberals are just mad that you don’t get to make fun of Palin for campaigning in cheap J.C. Pennys clothes.

  • WOOFX

    Not vinyl, “Monogram Canvas”.

You’re kidding yourself, people are going to consider
150K to Sarah’s personal enrichment insulting.
Pat Nixon – Good Republican cloth coat.
Nancy Regan extorted designer dresses as I recall,
    never paid for them.

    Sarah=Queen for a Day.

Sarah does look much sharper now.
I figured Cindy took her shopping.

    A little Palin

By the way, which is it liberals? Is Palin some unsophisticated backwoods rube, or some rich elitist?

You can’t have it both ways. Pick a narrative and stick with it, for crying out loud.

$150K? So, we're basically talking about a pair of earrings and a snack for Michelle then?

…Seriously, this "you guys did it too" stuff is just pathetic.

What was announced on the news (over course not the left wing stations) is that the $150,000 was then donated to charities by the store(s)
I think Michelle was busy stuffing her soon to be FATTER ass with lobster and cavier at the Waldorf.

  • dawneyr

As someone who gratefully scours Goodwill for bargains, I'm no fashion connoisseur, but I think Palin looks absolutely adorable and appropriate. One can't help but wonder who picks up the threads tab for self-proclaimed sister of the traveling pantsuits, Clinton. I haven't heard any public henpecking about that. As Dr. J. Vernon McGee used to say with respect to aesthetics, "If the fence needs a paintin' go ahead and paint it!"

Correction of the day award goes to The New York Post's Page Six, which ran this item today:

The source who told us last week about Michelle Obama getting lobster and caviar delivered to her room at the Waldorf-Astoria must have been under the influence of a mind-altering drug. She was not even staying at the Waldorf. We regret the mistake, and our former source is going to regret it, too. Bread and water would be too good for such disinformation.

The media is just upset because Palin doesn't show up to events wearing snow boots and a hockey jersey…maybe even snow bibs. Or maybe she should have worn a Skidoo cap and seal skin overalls.

How often does the media get to mock a tomboy hockey mom from the frozen north running for national office.

They have been cheated…cheated I say… out of this opportunity to Mock a rural hick by the RNC's dastardly make-over. Who the Hell do these Republicans think they are to buy this hick presentable clothes?

I doubt they'll find it insulting. But Palin's appeal is that she's "one of us". Putting her in designer clothes will shatter that.

And the bag is a Target bag. They sell them for 19.99.

Palin went from being a cheap empty suit, to a extravagantly dressed empty suit, thanks to the US tax payers.

At least the Obama's earned their money through writing books. Sarah Palin has enriched herself on the tax payers dime.

  • http://bullwinkleblog.com/ Bullwinkle

Yeah, just imagine if Obama had used his campaign's donated money to pay for fraudulent voter registrations.

Wait! He did. Over $800,000! And he paid it to ACORN, an organization with a well known history of voter registration fraud.

Now that's what I call the judgement to lead this nation. Not really. That's what IO call an idiot being duped, unless someone on the Left wants to admit that Obama wanted 10's of thousands of illegal voter's registrations.

Any of you Leftards ready to tell us which one is the truth?
    Anyone?

Anyone on the Left ready to admit that this story is just a distraction aimed at the class envy/jealousy crowd (that would be Marxists like WOOF and Reality Based Bob and the little girl of fire and light)?

What part of the RNC purse isn't paid for by the US taxpayers? Talk about stupid. I didn't say thanks to the taxes the RNC collected.

Typical reading comprehension problems you see from poofy.

  • Hannitized

    A $600 purse? Ooh

Most girls today buy expensive purses, usually Louis Vuitton. If you can get a LV for under $700.00 you are doing tremendously well.

Most Americans don't spend a 150,000.00 on a single shopping spree, let alone spend 150,000.00 in a year.

    This is simply outrageous spending.

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

Weak, lame and disingenuous. And may I add "pitiful" as well!

You can add what ever you want. They are still taking advantage of American taxpayers who have given money to be used for the campaign fight. Not to clothe Palins family with lavish and expensive clothing.

When adults talk about the use of tax money, or what the US taxpayer pays for, they speak of tax dollars, extracted under the threat of force, not voluntary contributions.
I'd forgotten, that to you, words have no fixed meaning and you change them whenever you're caught saying something extremely stupid, which is, now that I think of it, most of the time.

  • Homeschoolmom

Look, everyone would mumble and grumble if Palin was dressed inappropriately. The woman has got to have clothes to do her job. The cool thing about Palin is that when she's done with her clothes…..you'll be able to purchase them on ebay.

"Maybe $150k for clothing is not out of the ordinary"

How far out of touch are you?

Pretty far out of touch with what it costs to be a high-profile political candidate. It's jeans and sweatshirts for me.

But what I'm wondering is how much Obama's wardrobe budget is.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/ likwidshoe

Perspective (something the Obama followers are lacking here): Obama's 45 minute speech at Invesco Field cost $5,300,000.

Obama supporters may now commence their blatant hypocrisy.
