RNC Chairman Michael Steele: I’ll Support Primary Challenges To Republicans Who Voted For Stimulus

This is the leadership we need:

The Republicans in question would be Lindsey Graham, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins.

Now, I’ve heard all the arguments about “big tents” and “consensus building,” but ultimately…if the Republican party is to be the limited government party but the members of the party are going to vote for big government…what’s the point of being Republican?  Why not just be Democrats and Democrat-lite?

If these people are going to vote like Democrats, then let them be Democrats.  And let’s run against them with authentic conservatives and beat them in the marketplace of ideas.

That might be a messy process.  It might not lead to immediate success.  But ultimately, what should the goal of conservatives be?  Winning elections at the expense of limited government ideals, or actually promoting limited government?
