Right On Obama’s Heels: 37,244,000 Americans Watched Sarah Palin’s Speech

I knew Sarah’s ratings would be big, but I had no idea she’d be right on Obama’s coat tails.  She had 37,244,000 viewers.  Obama had 38,379,000.

And just think: Sarah’s the GOP’s VP candidate.  Obama’s the main event on the left.

That’s gotta suck for the Dem’s, Newspapers, Magazines, Televison, etc…

All that idolizing for the “one” and the VP for the Republican party brings in that number of viewers.

Ouch!!!

Right now, Obama’s running against Sarah, and she’s tearing him up!

Imagine how she would have done without all the MSM lying and smearing!  Or, how well would Obama have done if all the truth about his antiAmerican background were known?

If you guys are going to run the Veep candidate against the Pres Candidate than you have lost. Wrong.  In the first place, Obama is responding to her, so it’s “you guys” doing this. Nobody votes for Veep. Pure bullshit; millions of conservatives will now vote for Palin, and in the process will elect McCain.

You don’t know what’s going on here, do you....Mister Jones?

I think by every measure, she was the perfect pick, as Ann Coulter said, the best man was a woman. I won’t add to the list of accolades expressed all over SAB in the past few days, I agree with all of them. But, now you knew a but was coming, didn’t you?

I worry that people are getting so excessively excited about Palin that she could come crashing down just as easily, by even a minor stumble. She is not a god, she is far from a perfect human being and that means she has flaws and can and probably will make some mistakes along the way; and the people praising her now will, in all too many cases, quickly and easily condemn her then, “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall” is Wisdom and should be heeded in this case.

I am not trying to throw cold water on this fire of enthusiasm, only to advise others as respectfully as I can to not prop her up so high that she could easily be crushed by a minor fall. Biden is arrogant and incredibly verbose, but he is not an idiot, he will not only have facts available, but he can spin things so well and with such confidence that Palin could stumble in a debate. Today I heard him deny that he was ever really against the Surge and as I predicted months ago about Democrats, that Bush is accepting his recommendations for troop withdrawals, because Biden was right and Bush was wrong. That is what Palin will face, and maybe she will beat him silly, but we should not ask her to not make mistakes or fail for absence of some facts and be crushed by any failures along the way.

But, knowing the tendency of many here at SA to only read the warning and not my lead sentence, I will repeat it here: “I think by every measure, she was the perfect pick, as Ann Coulter said, the best man was a woman.”

Hawk,

That may be the so-called “conventional wisdom” but its clearly not the case this time around.  Even among the commenters here at SAB, a number of those on/in The Right who were disenchanted with McCain as the party’s nominee are ecstatic enough over his choice of Palin that they are once again enthused about the November election and posting, and presumably voting for the GOP ticket.

The reality is that Barack Obama is fortunate that Sarah Palin is just the VP candidate.  Meanwhile, his selection of Joe Biden is looking more and more like the sort of politics-as-usual mistake that could easily sink a campaign based on nothing more substantive than “Change” and “Hope.”

I don’t doubt that she gave a decent speech.  But the only reason she had so many viewers was because people were curious to see how she did, not because they knew she would be inspiring like Obama.

Obama has been in the public eye for years now.....Sarah is just a curiosity.

Watching the right wing make a “rock-star” out of Sarah is embarrassing and sort of sad for them.

Another lie from you; the obstructionist Dems have blocked meaningful SS reform, blocked energy development, and have blocked almost every significant Republican program in the past 7+ years.  The Republican Congress reined in Clinton’s profligate political spending, which is the foundation of our present prosperity.  Without that, the Clinton recession and the Clinton-enabled 9/11 would have sunk our economy.
You know nothing but partisan talking points, which are totally wrong.

Chris,

Since you are inclined to make a comparison between “repubs” and “dems” running government, why not start with the single most significant duty of the national government, national security?

During the administration of Mr.Bush’s predecessor, the US suffered at least one major Islamist terror attack every 18 months, culminating, one could easily argue, in the attack on 9-11-01.  Since Mr. Bush took office, there has been that one, horrific attack on 9-11, and then...?

Similarly, on the domestic economic front, Mr. Bush inherited an economic downturn from his predecessor which was enormously compounded by the events of 9-11.  It amy be fashionable to blame Mr. Bush’s economic policies for the current downturn, but doing so ignores the economic reality of the benefits of his administration’s tax rate cuts, while highlighting the economic ignorance of those trying to blame the current slowdown on “tax cuts for the rich.”

Since you seem to be enamored of your party’s candidates, perhaps you could take a moment and detail for the rest of exactly what an Obama/Biden administration would do to better ensure this country’s safety from Islamist terrorism, including Iran’s nuclear ambitions, and how raising taxes, all kinds of taxes, can possibly increase economic activity, growth, and propserity.

No, moron!  I said what I said, not what you said.  Even though the Republicans had a majority during that time(you first incorrectly claimed 8 years, which was one of your lies), they couldn’t do anything they wanted, as I have already pointed out.  The Dem minority obstructed important progress in all sectors, which shows how much they don’t care about America, but just about their own power.
If you don’t know that, you know nothing.

Not unlike the gop minority obstructing congress for the last 2 years...ya know...since the thumping.

In fact it was the gop’s stated goal, to obstruct and slow down the will of the people and run this year on the do nothing congress meme.

Very tricky these new gops.

Not unlike the gop minority obstructing congress for the last 2 years The Dem Congress is the most do-nothing Congress is history, so I guess you lying lefties have to blame it on someone other than Queen Pelosi and her band of failures....ya know...since the thumping.  The thumping was in ‘94.  The ‘06 squeaker(one braindead guy in the Senate) mostly lied to get elected; they posed as conservatives. The American people like conservatives, even phony, lying Dems who claim to be conservative.

What is revealing here is that no conservatives question the DNC enthusiasm for Obama’s bullshit; it fits the unAmerican Dem template, and is totally understandable.  The lying Dems/lefties/MSM, on the other hand, has to lie and deny about the obvious enthusiasm for Sarah at the RNC convention.  This is because we liked her because she stands for our values: the values of America.  So, you leftie liars have to try to deny the obvious truth: Americans like conservative values and principles.  An inconvenient truth for all of you.

WASHINGTON — This year Senate Republicans are threatening filibusters to block more legislation than ever before, a pattern that’s rooted in — and could increase — the pettiness and dysfunction in Congress.

Excuse me, you were saying?

realitybasedbob's signature
realitybasedbob on September 4, 2008 at 04:28 pm

RBB,

So What???

When Senate Democrats filibustered Mr. Bush’s judicial nominees, in many cases for 2 years and longer, the reason given was that in the view of Leahy, Kennedy, Reid, and Biden, the nominees were unqualified and thus not entitled to a vote.  This despite the fact that only once before had the Senate allowed a filibuster of a judicial nomination, and that was by common agreement of both parties (Abe Fortas).

Obviously Senate Republicans are convinced that the legislation put forth by Democrats is bad enough, for whatever reason, that it should not be voted on and passed by simple majority.

You can argue about the validity of the Republicans’ concerns with each individual piece of legislation being filibustered, but you can hardly argue that they aren’t doing exactly what they were elected by their constituents to do.
