Rick Berg: Heidi Heitkamp Can’t Be Both For And Against Energy Development

Rick Berg appeared on the Scott Hennen Show today, broadcasting from the North Dakota Petroleum Council’s annual meeting being held in Medora, and talked about the controversy over his opponent Democrat (though she doesn’t like that title) Heidi Heitkamp accepting contributions from a law firm engaged in anti-fracking legal activism.

“You can’t be both for energy development and for the people who are trying to sue and stop energy development,” Berg told Hennen. “This is what’s wrong with politics in America. Saying one thing and doing another.”

Heitkamp, a former EPA lawyer, is obviously pretty sensitive to the anti-fracking charge. After the NDGOP and the NRSC called for her to return the contributions her campaign unleashed a furious assault on Berg including new (and ludicrous) accusations over his time at Goldmark.

The intent was clearly to distract from the charges Republicans are making about Heitkamp’s support from anti-fracking activists, though with North Dakotans already growing weary of this campaign and Heitkamp’s attacks on Berg becoming increasingly petty, you really have to wonder if they won’t do more to hurt than help.
