Return Of The Say Anything Podcast

Last year I dabbled in podcasting a bit putting out five episodes with ND Rep. Tom Brussegard. I wasn't entirely satisfied with the way those podcasts were coming out, so I got frustrated and quit.

Well recently a new service was founded called BlogTalkRadio.com. It allows users to stream their shows live to the internet and even have listeners call in. The CEO of the company has been bugging me to give it a try, so I thought I'd fool around with it a bit this evening. If it works out I'll probably be using it more.

I couldn't get a hold of Tom, so I asked Brett Narloch of TakingBackND.com to join me. We're both new at this, and I'm not entirely certain I know how to use the BlogTalkRadio features yet, so if this first show comes off horribly you'll have to excuse us.

You can listen to the show live here. The call-in number is (347) 677-0693, or you can instant message me during the show by clicking here. The show starts at 4:00pm U.S. central time and will last for 30 minutes.

If you call in be sure to mention the name you use on on Say Anything (even if you use your real name too) so that we know who you are.

Update:

We just finished up. I think it went well. This BlogTalkRadio.com tool works really well. I was able to accept calls and everything smoothly, and I think the audio quality is decent enough. It would be nice if there were some way I could be alerted when the show starts and begins. Brett and I didn't know when we'd gone live and we didn't know when the show ended (you'll be able to tell when you listen) but overall it was a blast, and I certainly plan on doing more of these.

I'll have the audio recording of our show posted a little later.

Update:

You can download the podcast here.

The file size is a little large this time around, but that's the best I could do with the audio editing software on my computer. Normally I won't have to edit, but this time around it caught Brett and I talking a bit before the show before we knew we were being recorded and I wanted to get that bit off of there.

Good job guys, I missed the first 15 minutes and wish I would have missed freeps call in but aside from that it was very good, especially for a first effort.

Thanks Whistler.  I really enjoyed it.  We’re going to have to do that again.

The best part was the people calling in.

I didn’t give much notice, so it was nice to have people calling in.

I’m still trying to figure out what is up with my voice, that’s not how it sounded on the actual radio even just 4 months ago.

Is it just me or does it sound like kindof a Chicago/Southern/New Yorker accent?

Yeah that’s a valid accent.  You forgot Hawaiian.

I don’t know about your voice, Free, but you were right when you told me that Brett and I sound alike.

When I was reviewing the podcast I couldn’t even tell us apart.

That’s actually the one thing that was hard to follow.  I think you have to slip your names into the conversations somehow to keep it straight.

I was thinking about that too.

Not sure how to do it, but we’ll work something out.

I know!

They should give you a feature to insert some distortion on callers/co-hosts.  I wonder if Brett was even on the line!

Free, I’m not sure what you could do to make each person sound more distinctive.  It was sort of hard to follow.

Maybe next time Narloch should try to talk like Mike Tyson or something.

But Rob, you are a natural at keeping things flowing.  That’s the toughest part of broadcasting is keeping things moving.

Well thanks Free.

This service I used really made things easy.  In the past I enjoyed podcasting, but it was a lot of work on my end.  Now that it’s so easy I’m going to hopefully be doing these shows a few times a week on some sort of schedule.

Long before podcasts, there was something called Radio365 where you could do a streaming show - I tried that a few times but just talking to yourself is boring.  The “Crossfire” nature of this is what makes it interesting.

Yeah, being able to have call-ins definetly adds a whole new dimension.

I think I’ll need to do a better job of explaining who everyone is and explaining the stories we’re talking about.  I think on this show I tended to assume that everyone knew the stories I was talking about since they’d been on the blog.

Well, yeah, and I would suggest doing some plugs of you site every 7-8 minutes, or between subjects, whichever comes first.
