Republicans Postpone Vote To Expell Ted Stevens

Sigh…

Embattled Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) said Tuesday that he was happy Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) decided to postpone a vote to expel him from the Republican Conference.

The more appropriate description of Senator Stevens is indicted and convicted.  And Republicans, if they are truly interested in convincing the American people that they’re interested in a return to core conservative principles and ethical leadership, shouldn’t fool around in putting Stevens in his place.  They can’t exactly un-elect him, but they don’t have to include him either.

The word is that the GOP is waiting to see the outcome of the recount in Alaska which may well put Stevens out of office anyway.  But what a cop-out.  Stevens is corrupt.  And even if he wasn’t corrupt is is hardly exemplary of the sort of governing philosophy conservatives should want.

Instead of taking the easy way out they should gather the courage of their convictions and expel him.  Now.

Yet another missed opportunity to prove to America that Republicans “get it”....He should have been expelled the day after he was convicted…simple truths…
