Republicans Possibly Giving Up Convention Time For Hurricane Coverage, Dems Rooting For Gustav

Republicans are thinking about rejiggering their convention to include a pre-emptive strike of aid for the gulf coast region in the face of Hurricane Gustav.

John McCain and the GOP are considering scrapping political speeches and turning their St. Paul/Minneapolis convention into a “service” program to help victims of Storm Gustav, The Post has learned.

Sources told The Post that McCain himself might visit the Gulf Coast during the week of the Republican National Convention, which begins tomorrow. McCain is not scheduled to make his nomination speech until Thursday.

The contingency plan – a worst case scenario if the storm devastates coastal areas – would turn Republicans into Red Cross-type volunteers who would help collect donations, food and goods to help storm victims.

Not a bad plan, though Republicans are sort of “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” with this.  If they focus a lot of attention on the hurricane they’ll be accused by the left and the media (same thing, really) of exploiting a natural disaster for political gain.  If they don’t do anything they’ll be accused of being callous and uncaring.

So they may as well go for it.  Better to be called exploitative than callous.

But speaking of exploiting a natural disaster for political gain, Michael Moore is busy thanking God for this hurricane:

Former DNC Chairman Don Fowler is thankful for Hurricane Gustav too:

I wonder how many lives of citizens in the gulf coast region the Democrats are willing to write off as acceptable losses for the sake of winning the White House?

I see no reason why the Republican convention cannot go on. What can the conventioneers do? Federal, State and local governments have a plan of action. They should be allowed to carry those out. The delegates can’t do anything until after the storm is over anyway.

Why don’t you ask your old buddy George and the Republican
nominee. Remember, they fiddled while Rome (aka New Orleans)
burned. And don’t forget Iraq and Afghanistan.

The truth hurts, doesn’t it? And please stop insulting the intelligence of the America people. We are aware that whatever a politician can use for political gain, he/she will.

This Fowler video has made it to Drudge

No spin can fix the vile image of this top Dem laughing at the misery of the people in harms way of this storm.

Funny, watashatwad blames Rs for the failures of the Democrat controlled governments of New Orleans and Louisiana. Typical leftard shit.

As for the convention, why not have the delegates vote immediately after the opening ceremony tomorrow?

This is great. The American people sill be reminded of how little the Republicans really care about there own citizens with the return of another hurricane. And just at there convention, pictures of people drowning, and Bush eating cake with McCain. A clear message that the Republicans only care about you if you make a million or more. (middle class by McCain’s definition)This is definitely a gift from God.

You’re here because you know something. What you know, you can’t explain. But you feel it. You felt it your entire life. That there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. Like a splinter in your mind—driving you mad.

I think this is your typical Daily Kooks and huffpost opinion. Wait till the left finds out that statement is going to come back to haunt the DNC
