Republicans Deserved To Lose

This, and not Iraq, is the real reason why Republicans lost yesterday:

Consider these results from a poll of voters in 12 swing GOP-held congressional districts, conducted by OnMessage Inc. (PDF):

No, these results are not typographical errors:

* When asked which Party they believe would cut taxes for the middle-class 42% said the Democrats while only 29% chose the Republicans.

* When asked which Party will work toward reducing the deficit 47% chose the Democrats while only 22% chose the Republicans.

* Again, when asked who will keep government spending under control the Democrats held a 17 point edge (38% Democrats, 21% Republicans).

Pathetic isn’t it?

And to think, all it would have taken is some fiscal restraint and real efforts to shrink the size of government (with a little less corruption mixed in) and the Democrats would still be the minority party.

Rob,

I’m with you on this. The Republicans sat back and let the left pound them into the ground in the media. When they did start to fight back a bit it was too little, too late.
They’d lost part of their base to a better campaign. In this case one that based a whole lot of it’s communication on disinformation.

No matter. It worked. Shoulda, coulda, woulda.

It isn’t so much that they let the media/Dems beat them up (though that’s part of it) but they just didn’t act like conservatives.

They got elected on a limited government platform.  They couldn’t run on that this time around because nobody believed them.

You’re right about that part, too. In one of my rants here on this blog I wrote that the government is continually intruding in our lives with the creation of more and more laws, especially federal ones. Bush didn’t do his party any favors with things like the Terry Schiavo issue.

They should butt out, not in.

I absolutely believe that the republicans got what they deserved yesterday.  although the dems will run this country into the ground, at least it is real democrats and liberals doing the damage.  which is better than a bunch of democrats with an R infront of their names.  I believe people could no longer tell the difference between the two parties and clearly the republicans were not doing their job.  I can’t think of one piec of legislation that got passed in the last two years that had any major consequence to the nation.  The republicans simply refused to govern with any kind of restraint or direction, instead they spent like drunken sailors and left the nation no choice.  But hopefully this lost and maybe another in 2008 will wake this worthless party up and make way for some real, conservative, reformers.  Of course on the bright side now with the dems in charge i look for gas to be below $1.00, the minimum wage to be around $15.00/hour, we will win the war in Iraq, cure global warming, aids, cancer, and homelessness by the end of the year.  that is what they have been promising isn’t it?

Ezekiel 11:21
But as for those whose hearts are devoted to their vile images and detestable idols, I will bring down on their own heads what they have done, declares the Sovereign LORD.”

Well, the citizens of America have spoken.... and so has God! We will reap our just reward.

..despite been pissed with the GOP, conservatives DID show up to vote yesterday.

That there’re some other reason behind the “thumping” of the Republican party on Tuesday doesn’t obscure the fact that the perceived Bush’s mis-management of the war played an extremely major part in the Tuesday’s bad outcome for the Republican party. (as evidenced in his approval rating, how many people were voting to express their disapproval of him, the unpopularity of how things are going in Iraq, etc,),

...but yes, we can still some solace that fiscal conservatism RULES. ..even the Dems are talking it up!

mark my words: Over the coming two years, Bush will give conservatives of America more to be pissed about than incoming Speaker Hastert and Majority Leader Reid will give liberals of America
