Republicans Attending National Convention Greeted By Liberal Protesters Dressed As Giant Vaginas

This a microcosm for the tenor of American political discourse these days.

Republicans: We have more government than we can afford.

Democrats: Republicans hate people with vaginas!

Several demonstrators from Code Pink, a feminist group, wore frilly pink costumes while others adorned with cardboard cutouts resembling the sexual organ were milling about on Sunday looking for Republicans.

A Florida website called Shark-Tank.net captured video of some of them during their preparation (video below). The protesters carried signs saying such things as: “Read my lips. Leave my vagina alone,” and argued that pro-life Republicans are waging a war against women.

Meanwhile, it seems a convention protest organized by the Occupy Wall Street movement (among others) was a big flop:

Dozens of law enforcement officers swarmed to Perry Harvey, Sr. Park on Monday during the Coalition to March on the RNC when several Black Bloc members arrived at the rally.

“There are some potential troublemakers mixed in,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff David Gee.

Officers and deputies kept a close eye on protesters as they marched toward the Tampa Bay Times Forum. National Guard officials watched overheard from an overpass near Nebraska Avenue. Some law enforcement officers videotaped the protest.

Earlier on Monday, organizers had arrived at the park to kick off the Coalition to March on the RNC on Monday. About 5,000 demonstrators were expected.

But by midmorning, as Tampa felt some minor effects from Tropical Storm Isaac, the number of protesters out at Perry Harvey, Sr. Park didn’t reach 500. There were as many journalists as there were protesters.

To be fair, the weather was undoubtedly a factor, but still. Not being able to gather even 1/10th of the people you expected is a pretty significant failure.
