Republican National Committee Set To Pass Resolution Ripping Bush For Socialism

And as much as I think the President has been right about some things, I think he deserves this. If just for this quote alone, if not anything else.

Republican Party officials say they will try next month to pass a resolution accusing President Bush and congressional Republican leaders of embracing “socialism,” underscoring deep dissension within the party at the end of Mr. Bush’s administration.
Those pushing the resolution, which will come before the Republican National Committee at its January meeting, say elected leaders need to be reminded of core principles. They said the RNC must take the dramatic step of wading into policy debates, which traditionally have been left to lawmakers.
“We can’t be a party of small government, free markets and low taxes while supporting bailouts and nationalizing industries, which lead to big government, socialism and high taxes at the expense of individual liberty and freedoms,” said Solomon Yue, an Oregon member and co-sponsor of a resolution that criticizes the U.S. government bailouts of the financial and auto industries. Republican National Committee Vice Chairman James Bopp Jr. wrote the resolution and asked the rest of the 168 voting members to sign it.

Mr. Yue is exactly right. Republicans can no longer say one thing and then turn around and do another and be expected to be taken seriously by the public at large.
I’ve been making this point since 2006.
For North Dakota readers, are you wondering if your state party leadership is behind this move to make Republicans stick to the limited government platform? Well wonder no more:

North Dakota Republican Party Chairman Gary Emineth said it’s time for the RNC to end the disconnect between what the party platform says and what elected Republicans do.
“It is time the party gets involved in policy issues and forces candidates to respond to the platform,” Mr. Emineth said. “Frankly the way we view the platform is a joke. We work hard to drive our principles into the platform, then candidates ignore it.”
“If the party doesn’t move in this direction, we will continue to be irrelevant. Whoever has the larger star power will continue to win, and what they stand for and believe will become less relevant,” Mr. Emineth said.

Mr. Emineth has been an absolute champ in recent days on this issue. He, along with the help of Republican National Committeeman Curly Haugland, were responsible for forcing this meeting of the RNC at which this resolution will be presented. And good on him for it.
Now if we could just get Emineth to get his state’s governor and his budget that increases state general fund spending by a ridiculous 26% to more closely adhere to the RNC’s limited government platform we’d really be cooking with gas.

groetzinger – talk about out of touch – you turn MOST from my post, into ALL – ignorantly, or intentionally. But, regardless of your motives – as example: does liberal/left/democrat bastions California, New York, Michigan ring a bell?

And here is some info regarding the correlations between policies/governing:

Then make it a partywide thing. Plus, we don’t agree with the bailouts, but with the economy going down, down down, aren’t we going to have egg on our faces if this stupid idea works?? It does go against free market principles, but what else has ever worked during these down turns? What worked in the Depression? So, it is hard for me to say that I know 100% that this is the worst thing to do. I am still torn. I don’t like it, but I haven’t seen a single economist on either side that seems to know what the correct answer to fix this mess is, so I am not saying I know what is best. As far as Boehner and the others go, they wanted to grow a set a little too late for me, but they are what we have, so I hope they now do better. Just a little trivia, Boehner was a big part of the conspiracy to get rid of Newt, back in the day. So, I don’t trust him, at all. He is a opportunist.

While this is a step in the right direction we also need to stop trying to bring progressives and their crazy ideas into our movement, of course unless they change their minds and become actual conservatives.

I agree that the party needs to change, make a stand, but this is ridiculous, sorry Rob. Serves no point. It is just a pile on Bush when he is 20 days out of office. They need to look in the mirror at the things they did wrong, and how they were acting like Democrats and that they were the ones who caused the seat loss in 06, and to some extent the election in 08. Bush had plenty o help driving this train off the tracks.

To say that all the states that are in trouble are north and left shows just how out of touch or closed minded you are.

They should be ripping Bush as a war criminal for what he has wrought in Iraq.

Arguing against a straw men just makes you look silly.

A Citizen. Perfect quote for this “change” to socialism administration.

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”

    - Margaret Thatcher

Other people’s money. The OP have worked for their money. It is theirs. Others have not worked a day in their lives and prey on those who have. That is close to a form of slavery that we got rid of about 150 years ago.

Many countries still engage in slave trade. Perhaps some still yearn for those days?

I was disappointed that President Bush gave away billions of dollars to private companies like the automakers in Detroit. That would be socialism. State supported industry.

This if for them too. And it does serve a purpose. It may not pass, but we have got to start pushing back against liberal Republicans.

i was unaware of any conservative left. maybe ron paul, but he was quickly eliminated from contention because hes actually conservative and thinks bush are wrong about some things.

  • RFN

Dino, how was Bush a conservative? Other than social issues (abortion, gay marriage, etc.), how did Bush GOVERNas a conservative? He didn’t and if you had been paying attention, and I’m sure you haven’t, you would have noticed conservatives complaining about it for years.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/america_is_back/#c397018 DINO

Predictable. When a conservative fails (and they always do!), they weren’t a “real” conservative. It’s Rule #1 in the conjob misguided belief rulebook.

But by all means, embrace a more militant brand of conservatism. That will insure that you lose more elections.

  • right4us

dino – dude! most of the crime comes from the north and leftist run states, most of the illegals and militant Islamist hail from leftist run states, most of the states that are bankrupt are leftist run states – so if the south is third world – the north/leftist states don’t even qualify that level of status.

Oh, and lets see here – when the leftists/dhimmicrats fail, and they do much more than conservatives – the complicit leftist media lies, distorts, and propagandizes just like the Nazis, the militant Islamists, the communinsts, etc do!! Like begats like! dude.

Then make it a partywide thing.

We are. This is a resolution before the Republican National Committee which consists of representatives voted to the RNC by Republicans in all 50 states and some of the territories.

but with the economy going down, down down, aren’t we going to have egg on our faces if this stupid idea works?? It does go against free market principles, but what else has ever worked during these down turns? What worked in the Depression? So, it is hard for me to say that I know 100% that this is the worst thing to do.

    I think you’re wrong.

At best, these bailouts might kick the problem down the road for a while and that might have some saying they work. But ultimately they won’t work because ultimately they don’t fix any problems. They just maintain the status quo.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

I agree that the party needs to change, make a stand, but this is ridiculous, sorry Rob. Serves no point. It is just a pile on Bush when he is 20 days out of office.

But it’s not just about the bailouts. The Senate Minority Leader and House Minority Leaders (McConnell and Boehner) both voted for the bailouts.

This if for them too. And it does serve a purpose. It may not pass, but we have got to start pushing back against liberal Republicans.
