Republican Congressman Tells China Not To Trust Obama’s Budget Numbers
I agree with Rep. Mark Kirk’s sentiments. For all his blather about correct Bush-era budget shenanigans, Obama is certainly cooking the books to make America’s financial outlook brighter than it is. But to tell a foreign government not to trust our President?
I’m sorry, but politics stops at the border. Rep. Kirk can say whatever he wants about Obama’s budgeting here at home, but all but calling the President a liar to a foreign nation is not appropriate for a member of Congress. Kirk is right on fact, but wrong in action.
Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL) now appears to have taken a bold step in the debate over the budget deficit: Openly telling a foreign government not to trust the administration in Washington.
The Straits Times reports that Kirk spoke to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington think tank, and discussed a meeting he had with Chinese leaders.
Here’s the video.
When the Iraq war was raging and Democrats would go overseas and blast Bush, that was wrong. Rep. Kirk going to China and blasting Obama to the Chinese is also wrong.
We should settle these disputes at home, and present a united front to the world. Tags: Asshats, Domestic Issues, Politics

But this is how you people operate. You’ll burn down the house when you don’t get your way.
GO ahead, print that post by me. Say that I want the country destroyed. Your republicans are turning that rhetoric into action! How proud you must be!
As the desperation to stymie Obama increases, look for conservatives to become more outrageous.
Awful people.
Chances are that the subject of the countries shaky financial state came up in a casual conversation so what was Kirk supposed to do, lie? Than he would have been just like any Democrat.
Honest in politics is a rare thing so we shouldn’t get on Kirks case when he was being so.
You can go FUCK yourself Kirk, you anti-gun piece of shit. You’re no better than any other gun hating shit stack from Illinois.
All this assholes info comes straight from the Brady Bunches web site.
Just like the Dixie Chicks, people should stop buying this guy’s records and going to his concerts. Justice.
To the dumb potato who whines about Barry. If you are not aware, the world financial system as we know it for the past 100 years or so was on the verge of financial collapse as a direct result of Bush’s policies and inaction over the past eight years.(Look up Bank of England head Mervyn King’s comments and check out how much money was withdrawn within hours after W let Lehman Brothers(?or was it Bear Stearns) collapse. Obama was elected due to the fact that the republicans destroyed the middle class and the economy with it. All we need is for you rubes to grow old quickly and die off along with your party so this country can get back on its feet. Unfortunately it won’t happen quick ebough.
Here’s the difference, Rob: The Dem would be trying to bring down the US by downtalking the economy, but this guy is trying to prevent Obama from bringing down the US with his insane economic schemes. Like most arguments, both sides are not symmetrical.
The best thing that could happen to America is that everyone would stop loaning our government their money.
I don’t see anything wrong with what Kirk said. He didn’t blast or criticize Obama. Congress passes the spending bills and as a member of congress he’s informing China that he feels we will be spending more than what has been budgeted, and assigns the reason for it as health care. Why can’t that be said? Its true and everyone knows it. Why should he lie just because the president does?
WHY, THIS MAN IS A TRAITOR!
HE SHOULD STEP DOWN IMMEDIATELY
HE SHOULD APOLOGIZE
WHY DOES HE HATE AMERICA?
HE SHOULD DO…whatever the nutters said the dems should do when they criticized bush
I don’t think it’s that simple. You say this is a fight that needs to be fought here. How’s that working so far? Obama controls congress, he controls the majority of the media, the majority of the country’s voters seem pretty oblivious to what the consequences of his actions are going to be. What course of action would you suggest? This isn’t the conventional political battlefield anymore. The liberals have taken extreme measures to get a inexperienced community activist put in charge of the greatest country on the planet. Maybe extreme measures are needed to get him removed from power.
Here’s the problem, these two statements:
If the Chinese can see what we’re doing, it is wrong to ever speak up, as they can see we are divided.
We cannot present a united front to the world, as no one out there is retarded enough to ignore our own news.
The above may be true. But what’s it called when Obama goes overseas and apologizes for American. That’s politics!
Well said Rob. Two wrongs don’t make a right/ This has been going on ad nauseum for years and has just got plain nasty. It is one of the main reasons people are turned off.
The tit for tat bs that is going on is a bitter disappointment.
I was hoping the Dems would be big enough to stop it but Pelosi and Reid started off with na na we win so screw you.
Its like an f’en blood feud. Unfortunately no one wants to stop it. As a voter I’m turned off
Well said Rob. We should act like Americans and work together to solve problems at home instead of airing it on the world stage.
Its not politics at all, its having respect for the people representing the country that is buying most our debt. Kirk would do a disservice to himself and the country if he goes over to China and gives them some kind of rosy scenario that he knows not to be true. I watched his appearnace on TV, he did not blast Obama or tell the Chinese to not trust Obama’s numbers. It wasn’t an ambush or partisan attack on the president. He simply told the Chinese what is happening in congress and did not spin it.
Oh, damn, Suite wanted to make a libertarian comment…time to smack him down again.
The fool who demands prohibition on drugs when he or she is knowledgable of the death this causes is guilty of murder and will be held to account on judgement day of the death of their fellow man. God will not judge you favorably for supporting policies which lead to nothing but sadness.
You are directly responsible for teh deaths of your fellow man across the world because of your policies. Good for you.
You cannot make your case without cowardly sniping. Before you demand others meet YOUR challenge…meet mine.
Your standards have led to tens of thousands of (by your standards) children being charged with sex crimes. You continue to defend this, even though it leaves broken lives and has resulted in thousands of dead children.
Society can espouse any interest they want by this standard. And most of us will be criminals. You’re a fool, Suite.
Sorry guys but politics should stop at the border. If this had been a democrat bashing bush you guys would be singing a different tune.
Rob:
This is a meaningless statement from you who are manifestly willfully alien to the meaning of “principles” or any variant thereof. To wit, your insistence that there will either be no repercussions from legalizing marijuana and alcohol, especially for all ages, or that any such repercussions are not your problem. To look our on your fellow Americans and see them as they are, behave, and live and say that is gross negligence if not callous disregard.
In other words, you want what you want no matter the cost, ignorant and willfully dismissive of the cost, accepting no part of the cost, and claim it is for principles.
Without moral responsibility in the things you do, you have no claim to any principles. THAT is the end of the neolibertarianism that you support.
I once again put to you that if you believe it is between the parents and the children what they ingest and do with their bodies, then what is your rationale for the government intruding when it comes to their sex lives?
You CANNOT be against the government expressing a societal interest in consumption of mind altering compounds by children by reason of it being none of society or government’s interest and be in favor of that same government expressing a societal interest in regulating what they do with their bodies in private AND be morally consistent.
So your statement is utterly meaningless and I just thought you should know that, lest you think my lack of response was to shrink from what you undoubtedly believed to be a stinging line. You’d have to earn my moral respect first.
With regard to the main post now that Rob’s little distraction is dealt with…
Members of the government have a duty to defend the nation, not the government, not the regime, not the administration, but the nation against enemies foreign and domestic and now that Obama is set on becoming that domestic enemy of his own nation, abusing the power of the presidency as he wills, to remain silent is entirely wrong.
Since neither Obama nor his administration nor his political party are the nation, they have no expectation of defense. The nation itself does. To protect the administration instead of the nation is to join the administration in being that domestic enemy.
The actions of the Obama administration clearly call for stronger voices to be raised and more pointedly and with sharper focus and targeting.
The president destroyed those principles by purposely disgracing us by lying blatantly to the Chinese and treating them like idiots. The Chinese for their part did no wrong, made no provocation to deserve that, and indeed financed our debt for us.
Once that line was crossed by Obama, not end-running him is to let a man who does not believe in the principles you speak of to hang you and me and the entire country with them.
We owe no honor to those without it, owe no honor to those who discard it, owe no honor to those who would see our honor destroyed. At least when the left did it, Bush could say they were kissing up to avowed aggressors. China has acted honorably and deserves better.
Or have you forgotten that he has kissed off most of our allies and cozied up to all those avowed aggressors? Did you not think this signaled a lack of honor, integrity and morality on the part of Obama and his sycophants? At what point do we start fighting back? When there are riots in the streets because the economy has collapsed entirely because the rest of the world led by China has told us to go fuck ourselves?
At what point do you actually start resisting a man who’s made NO secret of his contempt for the nation you claim to care about?
The time to make things better is when you have the chance, not when it has already turned to shit. That time is now. If Obama is going to ignore all the rules and do whatever he wishes by kingly fiat then we the people including congress owe him no expectation of covering his ass with silence.
Rob:
Sorry Rob, but that is exactly what the left is counting on. During the Bush administration numerous Dems were all too happy to backstab Bush at will even as their spokesmen vowed to stand together with their commander in chief.
Relying on the Obama administration to represent the situation to China is to let the fox control the henhouse and the milkman to bone the farmer’s wife.
Someone needs to show something of integrity and honest to the Chinese. Given that they’ve helped us with our debt so far I don’t exactly see them acting like enemies and some honesty would go a long way towards keeping them friendly. Obama is lying to their face, they know it, Obama knows they know it, and he hasn’t had the honor to come clean.
Not good to act that way in front of a nation that has quite a cultural sense of the concept of honor. It’s like lying to the Japanese. Entirely bad idea.
So two wrongs make a right?
The Chinese aren’t stupid. They see our open debate going on here in America. If Rep. Kirk wants to speak up, let him do it here at home. Not abroad.
It wasn’t right when the Democrats did it to Bush, and it’s not right now that Kirk is doing it to Obama.
If only you were principled enough to realize this.
