Republican Angers Democrats By Referring To Social Security As “A Milk Cow With 310 Million Tits”
Personally, I think Rep. Alan Simpson should be commended for coming up with one of the most memorable – and accurate – political metaphors I’ve heard in a while:
The New York Daily News reports that former Sen. Alan Simpson (R-Wyo.), co-chairman of President Obama’s National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, has “outraged feminists, Social Security recipients, and many liberal Democrats” by likening Social Security to “a milk cow with 310 million tits.” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.), who I’m guessing did not do too well on the verbal section of the SAT, called the analogy “beyond comprehension” and demanded Simpson’s removal from the commission.
I like that feminists are, apparently, outraged by this. How they got an insult to women from Rep. Simpson talking about milk cows is beyond me, but I guess there’s no excuse too slim for a good hate session from the perpetually outraged in our midst.
Regardless, Rep. Simpson is absolutely right. Social Security has turned us all into dependents suckling at the government teat. And the politicians, particularly the Democrats, aren’t afraid of dangling that teat in front of us to get us into line. We’re all forced to pay into the program. And, in our twilight years, we’re scared into submission with threats that we may not get back what we paid in.
But the tide on that is changing as the insolvency of the Social Security program convinces younger Americans that they probably aren’t ever going to get what they paid in back anyway. I could be wrong, but the days in which the Democrats could reliably fear-monger with Social Security are numbered.
