Reporters Line Up To Support Journalist Canned For Saying Republicans Want To “Party With Black People Dying”

Yahoo’s news bureau chief David Chalian was canned after Newsbusters uncovered comments about Republicans wanting to “party with black people dying.”

His comments were a reference to Hurricane Isaac which has hit land on the gulf coast and has, tragically, wracked up a body count.

What’s perhaps more interesting than Chalian derailing his own career with some patently unfair comments about Republicans is how many supposedly objective reporters are lining up to support him. The Washington Post is spinning his comments as a “joke” (but remember, Romney’s birther joke was really a racist dog whistle, and that’s not at all a double standard) and “real journalists” like Gwen Ifill criticized Chalian’s firing.

I’m sure they’d feel that way if some reporter were caught saying something similar about Obama, right?
