Reporter: Obama Giving Fake Interviews, Generally Trying To Micromanage The Media Overseas

Veteran NBC reporter Andrea Mitchell is not impressed with Barack Obama’s treatment of the press on his trip overseas.  Here’s video of Andrea Mitchell discussing the matter on Hardball:

Transcript of the pertinent quote:

MITCHELL: Let me just say something about the message management.  He didn’t have reporters with him, he didn’t have a press pool, he didn’t do a press conference while he was on the ground in either Afghanistan or Iraq. What you’re seeing is not reporters brought in.  You’re seeing selected pictures taken by the military, questions by the military, and what some would call fake interviews, because they’re not interviews from a journalist.  So, there’s a real press issue here.  Politically it’s smart as can be.  But we’ve not seen a presidential candidate do this, in my recollection, ever before.

The question is: When will the media get around to criticizing Obama for this?  If McCain were overseas refusing to talk with foreign journalists and trying to manage the press the New York Times would have all but called him a fascist by now, and Keith Olbermann would have actually called him a fascist.

But the liberal messiah does it and he, so far, gets a pass.

Old and tired, and all too true, Chris.

..the New York Times would have all but called him a fascist by now, and Keith Olbermann would have actually called him a fascist.

Do you think they would have also called him a Socialist, like most of the right-wing pundits, blogs, FOXNews anchors and editorial talking heads do?

I don’t see the issue here?  Why is it because he did something nobody has done before means it is bad?  Hell, Andrea said it was Politically smart as can be.  You are just jealous again.

Obama said he wasn’t going to campaign overseas, talking to the press would change that.  He has already taken tons of criticism from right-wing hacks for “campaigning” over seas...so he decided not to....and they got even more upset.

Face it, you just are upset because it is Obama doing it and not your guy.  You hate everything Obama does, for no valid reason.

Your “If McCain did this....” crap is getting old.

Not as old as this fawning behavior by the fourth estate.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

Why is it because he did something nobody has done before means it is bad?

It is a sign of weakness from Obama. He is so afraid about unscripted interviews with anyone, because he invariably starts stammering, flip flopping, and coming up with gaffes you wouldn’t get from a fifth grader (he wants to be president for ‘the next eight to ten years’, for example.)

This isn’t political brilliance, it is basic insecurity.

If he can’t face up to the press, how will he face Ahmadinejad?

Answer: he won’t. He will crumble and start sucking his thumb.

So an interview isn’t an interview unless it’s done by a journalist?  An elite jounalist?  Gimme a break.
