Rep. Heath Shuler (D) Wants To Go Back To The 55mph Speed Limit

Is resurrecting one of the most memorable policies of the Jimmy Carter administration really something Democrats want to do as Barack “Windfall Profits Tax” Obama runs for Jimmy’s third term?

Record-high gas prices have triggered talk that it may be time to lower the speed limit on federal highways to 55 or 60 mph.

“I think that’s a great way to save fuel,” said U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler, D-Waynesville, N.C. “I think it would be the right thing to do.”

If anything this just demonstrates once again how liberals fail to grasp how markets work.  American drivers don’t need a federally-mandated to help them conserve fuel.  High gas prices trigger conservation without the need for government rule-making.

Don’t believe me?  Consider that all over the country states are complaining about gas tax revenue lost because people are driving less.  Higher prices lower demand.

It’s economics 101, though it’s not surprising that a liberal Democrat would fail to grasp this concept.

That’s the government they eff up the supply and rather than fix the problem they decide to blame the public and push them around.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

It would be interesting to know how much all the changing of speed limits have cost taxpayers over the years.

Isn’t Shuler in the middle of a land deal scandal? Could it be that he has taken a page from soooooo many Dems and is working on his ‘art of distraction’.

Here in Maryland, they asked us all to car pool and drive less and all that jazz, so we could save the planet and now that we have, they are talking about raising our taxes due to the lack of tax revenue they lost when we all started carpooling and driving less. Be careful what you ask for Dems. You just might get it, and you’ll be exposed as the idiots you are.

You know, I’ve been a life long Redskins fan, and I can only say that not only do I dislike Shuler as a QB, but I really dislike his politics.

They recently conducted polls and the people said they are not in favor of this rule, its stupid and a reminder of the failed days of Jimmy Carter.

Doh!  Sorry.  I’ll fix that!

Brain fart on my part.

Sammy Hagar has something to say about this. I share his pain.
