Rep. Issa Says Ethics Committee “Whitewashed” Sen. Conrad’s Involvement In Countrywide Scandal

As far as apologists for Senator Kent Conrad are concerned (among those apologists most of the journalists in the state of North Dakota) the Countrywide VIP loan scandal he as involved in is over. The Senate Ethics committee “investigated” and without releasing any of the exculpatory evidence they considered declared him to be innocent of all but creating the appearance of impropriety.
Rep. Darrell Issa, however, hasn’t let the issue go. He’s actually angered Senator Conrad by continuing to push for a release of information about the VIP loan program from Bank of America (which bought out Countrywide).
Today Rep. Issa was at CPAC, and I asked him what he thought about the Senate Ethics Committe’s exoneration of Kent Conrad and he called it “whitewash.”

That’s a powerful statement coming from the ranking Republican member of the House Oversight Committee. The guy who is, by the way, also just released a bombshell report about ACORN (more on that at his website).
