Rep. Rick Berg Will Sign On To Support The Cut, Cap And Balance Pledge
7:18pm
The cut, cap and balance pledge is an effort being lead by Senator Jim DeMint and a number of conservative groups to oppose any increase in the national debt without significant spending cuts, enforceable spending caps and a balanced budget amendment being attached to it.
DeMint has been urging members of Congress to sign on to the pledge (more info here), and after news broke here on Say Anything that Senator Jim DeMint and other conservative groups such as the Club for Growth were looking for a challenger for Berg in the Senate primary (those potential challengers being Treasurer Kelly Schmidt and former federal candidate Duane Sand) it seems as though Berg will be adding his name to the pledge list for the effort.
I just got word confirming it from the Berg campaign earlier this evening. A spokesperson says Berg will be co-sponsoring the act in the House tomorrow.
Which just goes to show what a little pressure from conservatives can do. It also indicates exactly why our elected leaders should be challenged every single election cycle, and not just by a candidate being promoted by the other party but from within the party as well.
Berg was obviously feeling the heat from conservatives.
