Released Iraq/Afghanistan Documents Already Having An Impact

Remember all those documents captured in Iraq and Afghanistan I posted about on Monday of this week? The ones the President was pushing to have made public? Looks like the information contained in them is going to make a big splash.

New documents released by the U.S. Army show that Iraqi intelligence agents knew that Osama bin Laden was in contact with the Iraqi government. This is in addition to other documents which prove conclusively that Iraqi intelligence was aware of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi’s presence in Iraq.

Text from one of the documents in question:

In the Name of God the Merciful
Presidency of the Republic
Intelligence Apparatus
To the respectful Mr. M.A.M
Subject: Information
Our source in Afghanistan No 11002 (for information about him see attachment 1) provided us with information that that Afghani Consul Ahmad Dahestani (for information about him see attachment 2) told him the following:
1. That Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban in Afghanistan are in contact with Iraq and it that previously a group from Taliban and Osama Bin Laden group visited Iraq.

More here.
More documents available online here. As I’ve said before, I have a gut feeling that this information is going to impact the public’s opinion of Bush’s middle-eastern policies in a positive fashion.

I am not working Saddam. I want to run them through my computer trans prog to be able to cross compare against the published work. I will be burning raw copies to give to other people so they also can free trans. It is an open source information age, babe. The more people know, the more people know. Dig it?

I’d wager that if a Freepers (admittedly, not the more objective source) found that ""Saddam had targeted America" the Left, including all players, would be eager to disprove them.  And if that disproof was available, we’d be seeing that all over the news.

Since we are seeing nothing so far, I’d say the translators are being accurate, within the limits of the DOJ ? choosing which docs to release…  (which may not necessarily be the most objective starting point, sure)

Sorry mcairhead, there are twelve different people from 3 different organisation doing these translations. Plus the free lancers. Plus open source computer translations. I have filed for a complete set of the non-classified docs on disc, waiting for confirmation of release. Hope it comes in time for Easter break. Me and Boy can do our Arlington and Wall visit and get some work done at the same time. Got a stack of docs for GU archives and hate to pay FedEx bulk rate.

I followed the breadcrumbs and came up with this caveat: it’s a Freeper doing the translation.

Otherwise this story would be all over the news, and Bush would have called a press conference, or scheduled a speech to the nation as desperate as he is to improve his numbers.

I’ve got a gut feeling the Freepers are reading into these documents what they want to see. If you’re putting your faith in them – good luck!

Got your mind made up already huh.

I found an article in the WaPo that backs up the story:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/15/AR2006031502742.html

    We’ll see what happens.
