Reid: Rove Should Quit

WASHINGTON - The Senate Democratic leader said Sunday that presidential adviser Karl Rove should resign because of his role in exposing an undercover CIA officer, and a veteran Republican senator said President Bush needs "new blood" in his White House.

Rove has not been charged, but he continues to be investigated in the CIA leaks case that brought the indictment and resignation Friday of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, an adviser to Bush and the top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney.

Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has not made a decision on whether Rove gave false testimony during his four grand jury appearances. Rove is Bush's most trusted adviser.

What a bunch of garbage this is, from what Reid is saying right on down to the way the media is reporting it.

First of all, Rove should quit? Why, because his handling of political affairs is devastating for Democrats? That must be it, because Rove hasn't been convicted, or even indicted, of committing a crime. Further, it's become clear from the indictment that was handed down on Libby that leaking Plame's identity to the media wasn't even a crime to begin with.

This is sort of like a football coach demanding that the other team's offensive coordinator be ejected because the quarterback was flagged for intentional grounding.

And what's with reporting that Rove "hasn't made a decision" about indicting Rove? That's sort of like reporting that Fitzgerald hasn't decided to indict me yet. Reporting like that is a pathetic attempt to perpetuate a "controversy" that has run it's course. Enemies of the Bush administration have a vested interested in seeing this thing drag on, but to reasonable observers it's clearly over.

Update:

I just got done reading about 20 articles about the Plame scandal, each and every one of them about Democrat/leftist calls for Rove to resign. Either that or calls from the same for Bush/Cheney to apologize.

Is it just me, or does it seem like the Dems and the media are trying awfully hard to keep this thing focused on Rove instead of the person who was actually indicted?

You know, Scooter Libby? I haven't seen an article or headline yet today focused on Mr. Libby.

And the calls for Bush/Cheney apologies are just as ridiculous as calls for Rove's resignation. What should Bush/Cheney apologize for? That Libby has been accused, but not convicted, of a crime?

Give me a break.

Rove should have the common decency to step aside like the dhemmocrats want. Since that can’t make it happen through legal means, he should just abide by their wishes.

This is all so absurd.

I was thinking about this last night. What has this country come to when political parties have no interest in what’s best for the country, but instead do their best to cause as much trouble for a sitting president of the other party as they can? Isn’t it possible to have politicians who won’t live on the edges of the law? Is it impossible to have politicians who don’t have skeletons in their closet?

I have yet to see anything to suggest that any law was violated regarding Plame. If she was outed, she wasn’t outed while an undercover operative for the CIA. That makes this whole investigation absurd. Of course, something may turn up, but I’m not holding my breath.

On another note, what has this investigation cost? Why haven’t the dhemmocrats complained about the costs like they did about Ken Starr’s investigation?

In its first 15 months, the investigation cost $723,000, according to the Government Accountability Office.

[...] This is why the media (and the left) is trying so hard to keep the names Rove, Cheney and Bush attached to this thing. Because most non-politically-obsessed Americans are sitting at home going…Scooter who? [...]

Bush already promised he would fire Rove, so this should be a moot point.

I think you’re over-reacting to this.  Its not like saying Fitzgerald hasn’t decided to indict you yet at all.  You weren’t “involved” in the whole scandal while Rove was.  Whether he has committed a crime or not is still yet to be determined, but I think the article is written fairly. No offense, but I think sometimes you see a media bias where there is none.

Reporting like that is a pathetic attempt to perpetuate a “controversy” that has run it’s course.

Of course, that’s what the media does.  They hype up all controversy in order to do more business.  And its not really pathetic if it works.
