Reid Calls Bush A Loser, Then Calls To Apologize

Just another day in the Howard Dean era of political discourse.

LAS VEGAS – Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid called President Bush “a loser” during a civics discussion with a group of teenagers at a high school on Friday.
The man’s father is a wonderful human being,” Reid, D-Nev., told students at Del Sol High School when asked about the president’s policies. “I think this guy is a loser.”
Shortly after the event Reid called the White House to apologize, his spokeswoman Tessa Hafen said. Reid spoke with Bush adviser Karl Rove, asking him to convey the apology to Bush, who was traveling in Europe.

Insults are the last refuge of those who have who have run out of ideas.
Way to set a good example for the kids, Senator. But really, as I pointed out a few days ago when Virginia Congressman called Vice President Dick Cheney an “ass kisser,” if you’re going to say something like this at least have the guts to stand by it. Don’t say it and then immediately apologize or find some other sort of cop-out.
Update:
The White House has issued a response.

He should stand by it. “Bush is a loser, but within the best of my sincerest abilities, I have the greater duty to behave my elected part and serve my position as best as I can as a dedicated and contributing human being…even if it means working with a loser.”

The official response from the administration is about as bland as water on bread. Can’t they be the same? “We, all members of the President’s administration, feel Reid to be a loser as well, but it shall not in anyway hinder our peace talks over bowls o’ plenty chronic.” wha?

It’s unfortunate that you’ve subordinated yourself from these gentlemen…

The position of Aaron is subordinate from “these gentlemen” and these gentlemen, after all, have a duty to see that their civility at least corresponds with their power.

I never said Reid was a loser.

And even if I (or someone else) did, there is a huge difference between me calling someone a loser and the chief political opponent of the President of the United States saying it…

It’s also stupid to call a man who just won re-election, by a solid majority, to the world’s most powerful office a “loser”

Bush has always shown a level of class in his political style. It’s not like Bush to lower himeselve to the name-calling standard. There are much more important things Bush needs to focus on. Reid, on the other hand, has nothing to focus on but hatred for Bush.

The simple logic is way off. People are reasonable first, idiots second. He praises dubya’s father…he can do that until he’s blue in the head…but he can’t let you know that he thinks the president who he did not vote for is a “loser”…why the weight on the word that sums up in common english how he feels about the guy? You’re all saying you think THIS guy’s a loser and that it doesn’t affect what you do, but for him to be the same isn’t okay?

  • Carl B.

Well, what you’re saying is not that Reid is a loser, but he’s doing very stupid stuff. Mhmm. It’s unfortunate that you’ve subordinated yourself from these gentlemen; they are, after all, governed by the same rules as you and I.

Carl, what are you saying? Nothing you have posted in this thread makes any sense. Reid made a comment which he obviously thought would not be reported. When it was, he backpedaled and attempted to say that was not what he meant. Well, insults are not dialogue, nor do they move the country as a whole forward. W has responded to these kinds of things in the past with civility and aplomb. The Dems continue to become more and more shrill and insulting AND obstructionist. Exactly how does that make Pres. Bush a loser? Please illuminate the issue for us.

It doesn’t – Bush clearly became a loser all on his own. If you think otherwise, you’re just not paying attention.

Well, Gee! I’m convinced now! Thanks, Joe, for clarifying….
