Referring To Someone As “That Boy” Is Offensive?

Really?

Patronizing, sure, but racially offensive?  C’mon.  Obama’s mentor and spiritual adviser blames “whitey” for creating the HIV virus to wipe out blacks.  Obama gets a pass on that, but some Republican calls Barack “that boy” and suddenly he’s a racist?

How about some perspective here?  The only thing Rep. Geoff Davis did wrong here was apologize for something as dumb as this.

Obama is trying to pass himself off as black person; which he is not, he is half black and half white. The term “that boy” would have not any meaning, if the person Rep. Geoff was refering to was a white person. What he should have said: “that inmature person”. Any comments.

lou on April 14, 2008 at 04:37 pm

I understand where you are coming from. I mean, come on, how can Obama point the finger at this guy when his 20 year pastor says worse things. He’s got no leg to stand on.

But, living in the South the term “Boy” is a pretty tough slur against blacks. When I’ve heard it used here, it is totally understood that it’s meaning is much deeper than just pointing out someone’s youth.

Here is a story: When I worked for the railroad, I was doing a job down in Mobile, Alabama. The survey technician that was working with me, Carry, was a 20 railroad veteran and happened to be black. He and I hit it off great and had many exciting experiences out on the rails during my 3 years with the railroad.

We were surveying for a new track near the State Docks for an asphalt plant. The owner of the plant came out to check on us. He and I chatted about the project and if he had any concerns about the layout or cost. All the while Carry was standing next to me. The owner turned to me and asked “How about lunch after you and your boy finish up?”

I think I blinked in disbelief. Had he just said what I thought he said? Apparently so, as Carry began muttering under his breath. The owner walked away, but I had to calm Carry down. I told him that he couldn’t have meant what he said.

I doubt the this latest dust up is anything more than someone pointing out Obama’s youth. But calling a black person a “Boy” is not a good thing to do.

I don’t know.  Maybe it’s because I’m not from the south, but why does “boy” have to have a racist connotation?

Seems like this is Obama’s people looking for something, anything, to distract from Wright/Rezko/Bittergate, etc.

Hey rube, I know…let’s ask Chief, he’s from the south.

Hey Chief, when you call a black man boy, what might you expect as a typical reaction?

Let’s say you have a heavy box to lift and a black man just happens to be walking by, when you call out: ‘hey boy, gimme a hand here’, just how quickly would the colored fella jump to help you?

Wow he got so many right it’s gonna be hard to fault him on the AIDS thing, but he just might be overstating that one point.

And in the video, will you point out the things he said that were inaccurate. As a cracker, I can only take the word of my darker friends and they tell me of daily/weekly stories of the things the Rev. was speaking about as gospel truth. It’s different down here, rube. I can’t fault you, you just might not have the experience to know The Truth.

And just like Willie Horton never called himself Willie, he was William, (ask me I know - Lee Stitzenberger was a client of mine) the Rev. never said ‘Whitey’, but the gop did say boy.

I love how you minimize the AIDS comments, boob.

I never said Wright was wrong about everything.  Even stopped clocks are right twice a day, right?

But the AIDS opinion is reprehensible, and unforgivable.  Just as many other comments from Wright are.  Though you’re no doubt willing to give him a pass because it’s politically convenient.

C’mon Rob.

Don’t you know only Whites can be racist?

We are not similarly-situated as the historically- downtrodden and suppressed Negro.  Thus anything they do or say is justified as righteous indignation, standing up to the Man and fighting the Power.  Any transfer payments they take, any government-sponsored perks and incentives are reparations and any Black-on-White crime just retribution.

It’s a Black thing.  You (Whiteys) wouldn’t understand.

Besides, the blame of HIV being introduced through the vector of homosexual anal/oral sex has to be explained away in some other manner rather than exposing the offensive practice as the root cause.  That would offend and condemn one of the primary constituencies of the Left… homosexuals, and to a certain extent, intravenous drug users.

Can’t do that.

If you’re referring to the way the Dems treatment of black men who have seen the light and have become Republicans, you might have a point.  As for the Obamas, who bring in around $1 million a year, with Michelle getting a $200,000 raise last year, not so much.  Most “white people” don’t get that kind of “treatment”.

Because Obama is a mixed race wouldn’t he be offended IF someone called him “whitey”? OR “honkey”? OR is it just his black side that gets offended?  How is it that his Minister and personal friend can say such out right Racist things and he does NOT bat an eye. BUT a white Senator says “that boy” AND he is offended? Has Obama ever apologized for being apart of a church that’s leader is SOOOO Racist? Did Robert Byrd ever apologize for being a KKK clanman?
