Redeployment Of US Troops In Iraq Begins

Not that the media is going to make much of a big deal about it.  The war is only news when we’re losing, not when we’re coming home in victory.

Under the Pentagon recommendations, one combat brigade - numbering between 3,500 to 4,000 troops - will leave Iraq after the first of the year and will not be replaced. In addition, at least one Marine battalion will leave and not be replaced, as well as a few thousand support forces, defense officials said.

This represents approximately 8,000 troops coming home and with them a similar number of support personnel.  Meaning roughly 16,000 (give or take) out of Iraq.

That’s in addition to surge troops who were withdrawn from Iraq a while ago and never replaced with new personnel.

This is happening per the recommendation of General David Petraeus.

Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, delivered his recommendations to military leaders about two weeks ago. He had initially argued to maintain the current force levels in Iraq - about 146,000 troops, including 15 combat brigades and thousands of support forces - through June, according to defense officials.

What will the reaction be from Democrats (including Barack Obama) who declared Iraq a lost war over a year ago?

I imagine they’ll be studiously ignoring the issue.  And their allies in the media will no doubt let them do it.

one combat brigade… will leave Iraq after the first of the year

Should (God forbid) Obama be elected, I’m sure he will try to take credit for it when it happens!

That is a lie!!  Obama never said the war in Iraq is lost!

Instead of finding things to attack each other over, why don’t we find areas where we can agree, and find compromise long enough to take a step back and enjoy the recognition of our similarities?

Then, we can take steps forward in a constructive way, together, to tackle the issues where we really do disagree.

H,

Wasn’t really worthwhile the first time!  Stop wasting your host’s bandwidth.

So you are saying it wasn’t a lie Bat???

Of course you are not because you know it is.

Hannitized, if Obama didn’t think we’d lost the war then why was he calling for the immediate redeployment of troops?

The purpose of government shouldn’t be to do good, but simply to refrain from doing evil.

H,

Your fondness for self-righteous partisan quibbling is once again interfering with your comprehension.  Read Rob’s comment again.  It does not say that Obama has specifically stated the war in Iraq is lost.  It is true, however, that a number of other prominent Democrats have said as much, and I can find no instance when young Mr. Obama has corrected any such statement from any Democrat.

That’s cool. He gets to announce it now, but we won’t get to see the stability of Iraq post-withdrawal until the election is over.

Obama wanted to lose the war by cutting and running.  Fact.

If govt control of the economy were the way to go, the Soviet Union would be the richest, most powerful nation in the history of the world.

Thanks to Obama, America remains the only country where it is illegal to drill our own oil!

We won’t know what post-withdrawal Iraq will be like even though we get to bray about it now. Fact.

We know it won’t be like Saddam’s Iraq; I’m OK with leaving all the braying to you, Sparkie.

The triple and quadruple posts are on purpose because:

...when you’re a lightweight, you keep repeating yourself hoping someone will find what you say relevant, rather than merely repetitive.

Either that or you’re four and think that the more you say it, the “truer” it will get! Heh.

“Hannitized” seems typical of the Left.
Say it enough times, people will believe it.

Of course, the truth is, as we “all” know.. If Obama hadn’t said again and again how he would “end” the war, the Troops would still be there. Right?
Bush, and his secret handlers are in a Devious Dash to get out of Iraq, rob Obama of his Big issue, and hide all their ill gotten gains before he leaves Washington.

Hey Jack, Obama didn’t support the surge either.  He didn’t believe it would work.

Rob,

Hannitized, if Obama didn’t think we’d lost the war then why was he calling for the immediate redeployment of troops?

So the Iraqis would step up and resolve their political issues between themselves and get their police and military in place to fight and resolve their own problems.
