Reader Blogs Open For Business

Reader blogs are now enabled on Say Anything.  This will allow anyone to post articles to Say Anything.  I know a lot of you who have submitted posts here in the past have been anxious to see this enabled, so I’m sure a lot of you will be glad to know that it is finally here.

To be able to post you must first be registered.  To register, click on the “Register” link up by the header.

Once you’re registered, click on the “Reader Blogs” link below the header.  You will be taken to the reader blog page.  Under your username at the top of the right sidebar there will be a “request blog” link.  Click that and your request will go into a queue for approval.  Once you’re approved, you can post all you want live right to the site.

When you begin posting all of your posts will be saved under your name.  You will, essentially, have your own blog complete with comments and a unique feed for your posts and your posts only.  Basically, it is like starting your own blog, except that this blog will have a lot more readers.  And you needn’t worry about posting all the time to keep it up.  If you’re the sort of person who just wants a place to write a post now and then that people will actually read without having to go through all the trouble of starting your own blog this is for you.

All political viewpoints are welcome, as are pretty much all topics.  Want to post on your support for universal health care?  Go ahead.  Want to tell everyone about your recent trip to Michigan?  Go ahead.  Want to review a book you just read or a movie you just saw?  Go ahead.  There are some limitations though.  I’ll be putting up a list of what will or will not be allowed soon, but until then just use your common sense.  No porn.  No plagiarism.  No libel.  Stuff like that will be deleted and posting privileges will be revoked.

Anyway, go and try it out.  There may still be a couple of bugs, so if you notice something come back to this post and comment on it so I can get it fixed.  Otherwise, enjoy.

By the way, if you want to keep up with all of the reader blogs this is the feed for all the submitted posts.

Comments

If I understand what you’re saying, the blog posts will all appear on the main page, and also under a reader blog page for each contributor.  Is that correct?

It’s nice . . . I know y’all don’t really like my political p.o.v., but I do like being able to post reviews of appropriate books that I read.

I’ll be putting up a review of Charlie Wilson’s War in a couple days - I’m nearly finished reading it.

Actually, Rick, submitted posts won’t appear on the front page.  They’ll appear on the reader blog.

Eventually I’ll have the ability to pick posts I like from the reader blogs and put them on the front page, but for now they’ll just be on the reader blogs page.

I’ll like posts I like from the front page though.

I’d prefer you submit them to the reader blogs page.

I’ll give it a try then.

Rob, another stupid question from Mr Techiliteracy 2006. Just which feed do I pick, and does it matter, and will this only show when I come to SA or will it come to my email? I trawl manually, never used a RSS feed before. You know, my fear of change and all that. And I will now drop out again as another band of thunderstorms is coming through.

2Hotel9, the feeds for both SA’s main page and the reader blogs are on the sidebar to the right.  Soon every individual author will have his/her own feed as well.

If you want to get the hang of using feeds, check out Bloglines.  It is what I use, and its very simple.

Do you plan to have a feed of like the 5 most recent posts (ala RedState) under the “comments” up date?

Yes, we’ll be doing more to highlight reader blogs on the front page.  We just got the blogs themselves functional today.  The rest will come later.

Still something of a work in progress.
