Rasmussen Has Presidential Race At 3 Points
For what it’s worth:
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows Barack Obama attracting 50% of the vote nationwide while John McCain earns 47%. This is the first time McCain has been within three points of Obama in more than a month and the first time his support has topped 46% since September 24 (see trends). One percent (1%) of voters prefer a third-party option and 2% are undecided.
Gallup has the race at 3 points too.
Polls done right before the election tend to be the most accurate, if for the sake of the pollster’s reputation more than anything else. So you can probably bank on these numbers, though given how all-over-the-map polling has been of late who know.
It is interesting how these polls always seem to tighten right before the race. Is that just because the public is at its maximum level of engagement? Or because all the polls before are about influence the public rather than measuring public opinion, and they only tighten before the race so that the pollsters don’t look like idiots?
Meanwhile, the national media is preparing themselves to announce Obama as the winner as soon as possible.
