Quote of the Day

“Make no mistake, tax cheaters cheat us all, and the IRS should enforce our laws to the letter. ”

-Sen. Tom Daschle, Congressional Record, May 7, 1998, p. S4507.

If one doesn’t manipulate the system to pay less you’re considered a chump.

Not paying your taxes is not manipulating the system, dumbass: manipulating the system would be using all available tax advantages to lower your tax bill, not avoiding taxable actions (and yeah, I guess it’s a conservative institution that seemingly only traps democrats). Could you please, just once, say something worthwhile, and not prone to make everybody point out what a retard you are. Trying to get the left to understand anything concerning economics or tax policy is futile.

I’m not defending them. In fact, if I had my way they’d be paying tax rates from pre-reagan.

Presuming, of course, they file honest returns. They’ve already shown they won’t do that; what makes you think that they’d be more honest if the rates were higher?

There’s my mistake… “what makes you think.” I forgot who I was dealing with. “Thinking” is way, way out of your league, Dino.

I read the following in an AP story on-line:

Daschle’s financial disclosure report was released after he acknowledged that he had recently filed amended tax returns to report $128,203 in back taxes and $11,964 in interest. The amended returns reflect additional income for consulting work, the use of a car service and reduced deductions for charitable contributions.

So from someone who does taxes, it would appear that Daschle actually was claiming more charitable contributions than he made? Was he trying to defraud the government?

Why aren’t the Democrats up in arms about Daschle and his lying on his taxes?

I guess its OK to lie on your taxes if you are a Dem.

  • Neiman

I am always a bit amused in cases like this: Two of Obama’s appointees didn’t pay their taxes, because “it was a mistake and they are paying it now!” That tells us that after they were caught they paid their taxes and that means it was no longer a criminal act. Since when does confessing your crime after the fact make it okay? If it were Republicans, there would be demands the appointment be withdrawn and they suffer criminal prosecution.

I am so glad Obama has the most ethical adminstration ever, aren’t you?

Yes. Taxes for the middle class have actually gone UP in the last 30 years. The windfall was received by the top.

You all support the tax cuts for the wealthy because we live in this stupid “aspirational political culture”. Most cons who support tax cuts for the top think that someday soon they’ll be wealthy and when they get there they want a great deal too.

That attitude has brought is to the edge of ruin and given your kids a far dimmer future.

This has become a country of submissive little bitches if you are going to bend over don’t play surprised when some one steps up to ass rape you. Words from submissive actions are what matters there is not a patriot among you or you would have already stood up like you’ve got a pair. And certainly not a man in the group the democrats have thumbed there noses at the constitution disrespected my military. Now they want to destroy a way of life and not one of you gets they will still be unaffected by what happens to you. Good god look at yourselves in the mirror and see if you can live with what you see.

Tax avoidance and screwing the system are conservative institutions. Why act surprised when liberals decide to play the same game? If one doesn’t manipulate the system to pay less you’re considered a chump.

They were only trying to keep more of what they earned. Isn’t that what republicans always say? Shouldn’t you conservatives be fighting for these tax cheat dems, letting us know just how much they made and how confiscatory the taxes they paid are as a justification for their “mistakes” in preparing their taxes? It’s what you normally do.

  • Buckets

Why is it always so hard for the Democrats to do the hard rights? It’s a hole group of people who are looking for the quick and easy way out of everything. It’s people who basically never had to work hard for anything….always looking for the government for a hand-out..

Government is not the answer and the less we have the better off we will be…My dad at age 91 said “everytime the Government gives you something…they take something away from you….Thing about it!

You people waged war on taxes and created the paradigm that taxes are wrong and should be avoided at all costs. Don’t blame anyone else for the result.

If we all start to believe that speed limits are wrong and should be exceeded when no one is looking, there will be lots of speeding cars around.

  • MikeNC

“If we all start to believe that speed limits are wrong and should be exceeded when no one is looking, there will be lots of speeding cars around.”

Give me a break. Tax evasion, like speeding, is illegal. Tax avoidance, like driving the speed limit, is legal. Do you not take deductions when you file your taxes? Of course I am assuming you actually pay taxes. What are deductions if not a means of avoiding taxes? I know I am wasting my time here as you don’t really care about legality of any of this, but only the party affiliation of the guilty. If this were a republican you would be ready to ship him off to Leavenworth.

  • sayanything-4625

Yes. Taxes for the middle class have actually gone UP in the last 30 years.

You are correct, the Alternative Minimum Tax, passed by Democrats, is to blame. From the Congressional Budget Office:

The AMT exemption protects most low-income taxpayers, and the maximum 28 percent alternative tax rate keeps most taxpayers with the highest incomes off the AMT. Among taxpayers with income below $50,000, no more than 6 percent will have AMT liability in any of the next 10 years, and that percentage will be reached only in 2014 as inflation erodes the value of the exemption (see Figure 2).(11) At the other end of the income distribution, high-income taxpayers tend not to have AMT liability because a large portion of their income is taxed at regular rates that exceed AMT rates; thus, they have high regular tax liability. Even so, about 30 percent of taxpayers with AGI over $500,000 will pay the AMT in 2010, the peak year. In comparison, about two-thirds of taxpayers with AGI between $50,000 and $100,000 will have AMT liability in 2010.

This beast was passed in 1969 to make sure that the top 500 taxpayers paid their fair share. You’ll notice that the top taxpayers do not pay the AMT because they already pay at a higher rate. The middle is being caught up because the exemptions granted them by the Republican Congress are expiring.

In the next few years, the alternative minimum tax (AMT) will affect a growing share of taxpayers and generate a larger share of revenues. Personal income taxes will also
rise as a share of income after 2010 as the tax reductions enacted in the Economic Growth and Tax Relief econciliation Act of 2001 (EGTRRA) and the Jobs andGrowth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003 (JGTRRA) expire.

Tax AVOIDANCE is legal, tax EVASION is a crime. People avoid taxes all the time through shelters, trusts, gifting, etc. There is nothing wrong with doing what is legal. BTW, there is nothing stopping you liberals who think you don’t pay enough from writing a big check to the IRS.

“Daschle’s financial disclosure report was released after he acknowledged that he had recently filed amended tax returns to report $128,203 in back taxes and $11,964 in interest.”

I am a democrat and think that America ended when Obama was elected. 12k in interest is chump change that the connected get for cheating and saying “I’m sorry, I made a mistake.” all others get at least 25% penalty along with interest. I do taxes too.

Obama is surrounding himself with law breakers and cheats. He has a great talk, but he will screw America along his walk.

Funny! And you call us “stems”!
Please cite so much as a single source, from here or any conservative that says that “taxes are wrong”.

You have us confused (again, or still?) with extreme libertarians and anarchists. Conservatives believe that taxation for legitimate federal purposes is necessary and right.

You obviously haven’t the faintest clue as to what you’re bloviating about!

  • dawneyr

And were they fined thousands in interest and penalties or is that also just for the little folks?

  • http://suitepotato.blogspot.com/ sayanything-4808

Dino, you are truly a world-class moron. I salute your ability to go above and beyond in the quest for greater heights of stupidity. You are the Audie Murphy of liberal moonbattery. Please don’t ever change.

For anyone waffling and thinking he has a point anywhere but on his head…

Taxes and economies are like farming. You till fields, you fertilize them, you protect the soil with landscaping, you husband crops to their best output. You do not let the soil become farmed out, you rotate crops, you plant each year and water when necessary. Dino’s idea of taxes and economies would be like planting nothing but the seeds the birds crap out upon the ground at random, killing 2/3 of everything that does sprout, keeping 1/3 of the remainder’s produce and burning the rest. Never water or fertilize, and when the soil’s organic components are leached out leaving clay sand loam, scream and rant that your proper farmer neighbor gave your efforts the evil eye.

The more you take out of the system in taxes, the less you leave for keeping the system running. As the amount left over to the individual grows less, it in their opinion becomes less worthwhile to work to achieve it, until they more and more cease laboring. Eventually, enough members of society cease laboring to cause an overall system failure.

Humans work from perceived self-interests, and if you use the police powers of the state to confiscate the rewards of their labors, and threaten them with punishment for refusal to cooperate, their fear will only last so long. They will increase efforts to find way around the theft, and ways to stymie that state. As the state increases the pressure on the individual through increasing fear, human nihilism and fatalism slowly begin to overrun that fear until they are positively ecstatic with the idea of “getting it over with” and screaming bravely to “bring it on”. They rebel, and the entire society is destroyed and the people who advocated the oppression, like Dino, are usually fatalities of the internecine strife on the way.

So he does not only fail to understand the nature of his own species by a combination of naivete, denial, and stupidity, but he also fails to understand his own interests such as basic survival.

When the revolution comes, he will be among those up against a wall and such a revolution is not a thing to be wished for yet intransigent and stubborn nonthinking such as his continues to spread and creep like mold nearly ensuring it, despite the best efforts of people to stop it.

Every year people try harder to bring the world to a sensible balance and we have people like Dino living in an emotional tizzy practically demanding the imbalance that would be everyone’s undoing.

The least you could do Dino would be to destroy yourself quietly, privately through something traditional like alcoholism or obsessive-compulsive masturbation. Need you be such a self-destructive partisan ready to advocate ways of governance and societal regulation that must inevitably fall against the will and spirit of your own species?

  • sayanything-2483
