Questions for John McCain

As Rob reported the other day, the new Scott Hennen show is starting off with a bang next Monday.  Scott’s going to have Presidential Candidate John McCain on his show.  Scott’s soliciting questions from the public to ask the Senator.

Now I could submit my questions but I don’t think that my questions would be asked.  I expect that Scott will pick someone with a question like “How do we beat Obama?”.  Scott’s in the McCain camp and he’s not going to ask him a question from the conservative point of view.  Of course it’s Scott’s show and he can do what he wants.

But I think some hard questions from the conservative side would be a good thing for McCain.  After all McCain’s got problems with the base.  He needs to campaign to us to.

I got to thinking what question I would ask if I had the chance.  Now I’d want to stay away from the ‘gotcha’ type, but the Senator isn’t above being challenged.

The questions I can think of would go along the line of this:

You’ve said that you wouldn’t support legislation allowing illegal aliens to stay in the county until the border was secure.  Exactly how would you certify that the border was secure before signing any legislation?

You’ve expressed support for global warming legislation.  Does the fact that the Earth hasn’t warmed for ten years and that 2007 was one of the coolest winters on record make you think the matter deserves more study before we act?

While we’re on the subject of global warming legislation.  Polls have shown that the public is unwilling to pay more for gasoline or electricity to combat global warming.  On the other hand studies show that your cap and trade legislation will nearly double the price of those energy supplies.  How do you convince cash strapped families that they need to sacrifice so much for something that’s unproven?

Senator 30,000 scientists have signed the Oregon petition saying that climate science cannot guarantee that the global warming theories are correct.  Does this make you reconsider your position on global warming?

Won’t doubling the cost of energy result in the loss of jobs in this country?  (Follow-up question if he brings up his ridiculous statement that his cap and trade legislation will create jobs.) What economic theory says that increasing the costs of an activity results in more of that activity?

That’s the questions I can come up without resorting to zingers.  What would you ask Sen. McCain?

They fired up the transmitter and are “stunting.”

I heard that today.  That’s what got me thinking of this post since he was asking people to submit questions.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

It’s absolute necessity.

Who are you behind the political mask?

dirl126 on August 8, 2008 at 11:21 am

It’s absolute necessity.

False.  Only the demand for food, water and air is perfectly inelastic.

What is your position on the McCain-Kennedy bill?

You earlier pledged to run a positive campaign, yet the majority of your advertisements primarily focus on attacking Barack Obama and not advancing your opinions.  How is this positive?

You have advocated for drilling for oil immediately.  Are you also in favor of developing new sources of energy and if so how would your administration encourage this?

What is your position on dealing with Iran?

Hawk on August 8, 2008 at 11:26 am

BatWing:  Show hosts avoid questions in which the asker pre-positions the answer.

Just ask it right out.

“Senator, why are you not supporting oil-drilling in ANWR?”

“Senator, given the fall-out, do you ever regret sponsoring the McCain/Feingold legislation?”

“Senator, can you affirm today, here and now, that securing our borders will be your first priority and how will you do it?”

“Senator, you have been accused of being a RINO. What is your response to that?”

Not a question, more like advice…

A caller to Dennis Miller made a good suggestion, McCain should make time and stop for a visit with teh Republicans and do a speech in the darkened halls of Congress on his energy plan.

McCain, alone in the dark, talking about his energy plan…what a great image.

Excuse me, you were saying?

You’ve promised to veto pork and add on spending, however, wouldn’t it be a better use of veto power to force congress to address the much more costly reforms needed for social security and medicare?

In what places do you feel federal power has become to lethargic to effectively act and how would you use executive power to increase federalism or individual freedome in those areas?

What would you do in order to ensure timely up and down votes for your potential appointments?

Do you feel that immigration really needs reform when our current system is so poorly enforced?

What actions do you consider to be the most effective in helping the economy without leveaging our future economic strength? What role, and in what areas, do you feel that deregulation can speed up market recovery?

Do you feel that immigration [laws] really needs reform when our current system is so poorly enforced?

Yes when you define “reform” as “abandoned.”

Ask him is he going to bring up shamesty again?
Ask him if he is going to court conservatives instead of giving them the thumb in the eye…

Dr. McCain..
While Vetoing Pork, would you support simply outlawing the practice alltogether?
Before another “Committee” is formed in Washington, would you support a “Committee” to hunt down and prosecute those in Government, including Law makers, who Waist the Tax Payers money, and over-spend with Glee and Frivolity?
Into “Jail” they go?
My Hero,
With today’s technology, can’t we build a Fence that “Works” on our Borders? Without all the excuses?
i.e; they’ll go under, over, around, through. never worked in Germany.(actually it did, pretty well)
Mr. SmartyPants,
Why, when almost Virtually every Republican and Conservative is willing to consider the logic of Scientists who dispute Global Warming with very solid, even and considered research.. YOU, will not?
Thank You, your Eminence..
You already have my vote.
However, I remain curious..

The person running for president to do more for energy, in the halls where the democrat controlled congress have gone away on 5 weeks of vacation denying a vote on increasing our availability to enegy.

Also, isn’t 5 WEEKS of vacation a bit much?

sanity on August 8, 2008 at 09:08 pm

Why hire Rove disciples to generate demographic derived mantras for you? Why not bring some of this back to normalcy? Why the melodrama?

It’s not for the President.

You also assume this is a vacation.  Every member of the House has an election coming up.

Lestat on August 8, 2008 at 10:43 pm

It’s not for the President.

The President has already done his part: oil is down over thirty dollars a barrel since he rescinded the Executive Order against offshore drilling.  It’s the Dems who are extending their middle fingers to the American public.

You’re wrong; that was the reason Comrade Pelosi gave for their abandoning the American people in the midst of an energy crisis.

Of course you mean since Saudi Arabia increased production.

5 weeks vacation is way too little.  Congress should be in session 5 weeks and then take the rest of the year off.

Da-Man on August 9, 2008 at 06:41 am

Of course you mean since Saudi Arabia increased production.

Obviously untrue.  The decrease has come in the futures price, which is affected by the perception of instability.  The threatened re-entry of the US into the world oil market as a producer has produced expectation of future stability, and so the futures price is dropping, as many conservative economists accurately predicted.
It is laughable that you, as a leftie, first were very critical of the President because he didn’t get a big enough commitment from the Saudis, calling it insignificant, but now claim that it somehow made this very significant difference in the price.  Lie much?
In fact, we have proof of the fact that it’s stability at work: When the little dustup between Russia and Georgia started, a major pipeline was threatened, and it didn’t affect the futures price at all; it continued to drop.
Before the President’s announcement(and the actions of the House Republicans), such an incident would have produced a price spike, but in a more stable market, it’s no big deal.

What will you do to change a system that encourages laziness? If a person with a low income works 40 hours a week, they are not eligible to get any free medical help or food stamps or any other government help. If however that same person stays home and doesn’t work they can get full medical benefits and all kinds of government help. Even illegal immigrants can get government help. Something is very wrong with this system and it needs to be overhauled.I believe this is one of the things that is ruining our country. Can you please motivate people to try!
