Queen Of England Struggling Through Economic Times By Eating Leftovers, Wearing Outfits Twice

Yes. You heard that right. The Queen of England is showing solidarity with her subjects who are struggling with tough economic times by ordering that the royal kitchen keep leftovers, and *gasp* wearing some of her outfits more than once.

Always concerned about staying in touch with her subjects, Queen Elizabeth II has invited the royal family to follow her example and tighten the purse strings during the financial downturn.
The 82-year-old monarch has warned her grandsons Princes William, 26, and Harry, 24 — third and fourth in line to the throne — that all ostentatious signs of living it up would be inappropriate, according to newspapers…
For example, she insists that the Buckingham Palace lights are turned off when rooms are vacated and left-overs from banquets are re-used…
For a state banquet in the the Slovene capital Ljubljana, the queen asked her dressmakers to make her a formal gown out of some material she was given more than 20 years ago during a tour of the Middle East.
For her walkabout in the city centre, she wore a red outfit already seen at an official engagement in April. In Slovakia, she appeared in the same pink wool outfit that she wore on Easter Sunday…
The queen has not been completely spared by the credit crunch. Her dressmaker Hardy Amies and favoured porcelain maker Royal Worcester and Spode have both filed for administration.

This reminds me of Al Gore telling people to live more simply from aboard his yacht. Or John Edwards telling us to sacrifice for the greater good from his 28,000 square foot mansion.
I honestly expected this to be a piece by The Onion.

Do you expect her to move into Obama’s brother’s shack to be proven genuine? I think her choices are a good example. No one in the new economy is coming from the exact same situation and we can be respectful of those who are making adjustments where they are. To extend my resources I shop at Goodwill. That’s what I do and it works great for me. There are people who would have a hard time considering this option so they make adaptations elsewhere. Careful stewardship is the response of a heart grateful to God for blessings both great and small.

Being an oil executive’s wife you probably know what you’re talking about there ZZ. :)

Kenny, dunno if you’re joking or not, but if you’re serious, what happens if lots of rich people stop buying clothes is that vendors leave the market, prices adjust, and life goes on. Bastiat!

Interestingly, it appears that her newfound “frugality” (just $10k/week on clothes instead of twice that!) is going to put her clothiers out of business. If you want a picture of how monarchy and hereditary aristocracies warp markets, there you go.

Well, but on the same token, this also shows how the evil rich warp the markets. You have all the people talk about how, instead of buying 300 shoes, the evil rich will only buy 100. In England it’s only one person…and it’s bankrupting business. What happens if ALL our rich do it?

Will her employees have to now pay for the food they eat, now that they have been denied the free leftovers from her banquets? More suffering for all, thanks to the Queen Mum?

Whistle, I grew up around the oil business. My dad was a geologist and my granddad owned a drilling company. I remember going out to the rigs with them and they would make me stay inside the car because the men cussed real bad. I never saw any pitchforks though! HA!

    Patronizing old broad, isn’t she?

Any of them involved in legitimate charities?
Or, is this their big bit for humanity, besides that dumb ass Charles crowing over “global warming.”

That poor woman. There is nothing worse than day old Russian beluga sturgeon caviar and left over French truffle casserole.

I hate when commoner’s wave their pitchforks around!

Along these lines, wouldn’t it be awful to always need to wear an outfit that nobody in the media had ever seen before? To never know what a shirt, dress, or coat feels like when it’s properly broken in? To never know how lasagna improves on the second re-heating?

She’s just doing this so the commoners aren’t outside the gates of Buckingham palace waving their pitchforks.

I could almost swear I have seen her in the same outfit over & over for years. Is she trying to act like she is Princess Diana or something? I don’t think she has ever been considered the fashion Queen.
