Public Service Announcement: Never, Ever Use ProFlowers.com
Shortly before Mother’s Day I was scrambling to get something for my wife and mother. I happened to be listening to Rush Limbaugh at the time, and when I heard one of his ubiquitous pitches for ProFlowers.com I decided to give them a shot.
I did, and subsequently wished I didn’t.
First off, the boxes from ProFlowers were unceremoniously dumped off at the door steps of my mother’s house and my house. Upon opening them, my mother and wife discovered what appeared to be a box full of wilted yard trimmings. The cards I had paid extra to have included, along with a personal message from me, were missing. Both were confused as to what it was, exactly, they were being delivered and who had decided to send it to them.
After I got home and explained to them (sheepishly) what I’d sent them we set about putting the flowers into the supplied vases and within a couple of days they ended up looking pretty nice. The overall experience wasn’t worth what I paid, but I decided to just let it go. Lesson learned. Next time I’ll order from a local florist.
But it didn’t stop there. Today, a couple of months later, I noticed a charge on my credit card for $14.95 for something called Easy Saver. I looked back through my past charges, and sure enough there was another charge for $14.95 and a third charge for $1.95. I certainly didn’t remember signing up for any service called Easy Saver. As I investigated I found via a search of my Gmail messages that I’d been signed up for the Easy Saver program when I’d made my ProFlowers purchase.
So not only did I overpay for an FedEx’d box of wilted shrubbery to be delivered to my mother and wife for mother’s day, I was also inadvertantly signed up for some ridiculous shopping savings club that charged me an additional $30. I’m guessing there was some check box I didn’t click during the ordering process for ProFlowers that ended up opting me in. Shame on me for not noticing, I guess, but what kind of a reputable company scams you like that?
And while I like Rush Limbaugh, shame on him for promoting a company like this. I trusted them because I heard about them on his program, in an ad voiced by Rush himself, and I ended up getting screwed.
In summary, don’t use ProFlowers.com. Their product sucks. Their service sucks. And you’ll probably end up getting scammed.
