Protesters Tell Hillary To Iron Their Shirts

I know it’s wrong, but I can’t help but laugh.

SALEM, N.H. - Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign stop was interrupted on Monday when two men stood in the crowd and began screaming, “Iron my shirt!” during one the New York senator’s final appearances before New Hampshire voters cast primary ballots Tuesday.

Clinton, a former first lady running to become the nation’s first female president, laughed at the seemingly sexist protest that suggested a woman’s place is doing the laundry and not running the country.

“Ah, the remnants of sexism — alive and well,” Clinton said to applause in a school auditorium.

The two men were removed from the hall after raising a pair of signs that said, “iron my shirt!” They also shouted the same slogan.

“Can we turn the lights on? It’s awfully dark,” Clinton said, cueing the lights to come and police to come forward take the men away.

The overflow crowd burst into applause and some began shouting, “Iron my shirt” as the two were taken from the hall.

I’m reminded of this classic (and slightly profane) lampooning of feminist protests at the Augusta National Golf Tournament.

It’s not right.  A woman’s place is not necessarily to be doing laundry for her family.  A woman’s place is anywhere she wants it to be in the world, including ironing shirts if that’s what she wants.  But still, I can’t help but laugh when the man-haters are confronted with it.

I wouldn’t trust her with ironing my shirts or anything else!

Not enough starch on the planet for her to get my collar stiff! smile

I wonder if she’ll hold a press conference over this issue smile

Although i am not supporting Hillary Clinton for various reasons...i think the sexist comments are low low blows.  I don’t think she is equipped to do the president’s job but i do believe that she would make a fine advisor or ambassador.  The sexist remarks are very cruel and demeaning to women achievers!

caroline on January 7, 2008 at 09:15 pm

Oh look, caroline is crying. That’s just like a typical woman.

likwidshoe on January 7, 2008 at 09:18 pm

After her little crying outburst today, this smacks of a Clinton campaign trick to drum up sympathy.  She probably planted these assholes like she planted questions at her other events.  This seems to smack of “Obama winning is part of a vast sexist conspiracy to keep women down and I am trying my best to hold it together, but the world wants a woman ironing shirts, not in the White House”.

Imagine that… a desperate Clinton pulling all kinds of shenanigans.  I am surprised she didn’t produce anti-Obama drug use commercials, then hold a press conference to announce that she wasn’t going to show them but wanted the press to see ‘em anyway.

O’Hagen: I swear to God, I’ll pistol whip the next guy that says ‘shenanigans!’
Mac: Hey Farva, what’s the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy shit on the walls and the mozzarella sticks?
Farva: You mean Shenanigans?

Note, that being a Clinton and being part of the “that depends on what the definition of ‘is’ is” Vast Right Wing Conspiracy doesn’t get you a hell of a lot of sympathy or the benefit of the doubt.

Seriously caroline, you need to iron the creases out of your own wardrobe ... in other words don’t get your panties in a bunch over such frivolous issues smile

The major speaking point at the recent New Hampshire debates was “change.” Seeing herself losing out to the Iowa favorites (Obama and Edwards), Hilary tried her hardest to equate change to having the first woman president. Given her new pet platform, I wouldn’t at all be surprised if those men were planted.

Justin beat me to it, this is a Hillary putup job. Need to isolate the pics of these guys and find out what positions in her campaign staff they fill.

this is a Hillary putup job.

I agree! Of all the things you could protest about Hillary, “not staying home like a woman “ isn’t one of them!

It’s on a par with the “poor little me, this has brought me to tears” act she’s pulling lately.
Hillary as victim.

It’s what Clinton the Slick would call “Boob bait for the bubbas”.

“Just in case y’all didn’t notice,” Bill might say, “these two guys represent the reason my wife can’t get elected.”

“I can’t make her younger, taller, male, there’s a lot I can’t do,”

Bill did say!
Coincidence??? I think not!

Hillary as victim is not going to work. She has too much of a history as a vicious bitch to pull it off. The mask is slipping, and most voters will not accept the real Hillary.

I thought it sounded like a Clinton campaign trick too. I think she is feeling desperate since she is not winning. Desperate times call for desperate measures, so they say.

realitydenyingboob, your candidate is circling the toilet bowl and the best you can come up with is a dead link? And a bunch of whining? You are nearly as sad as Hilary, not quite, almost.

realitydenyingboob, your candidate is circling the toilet

I was never a Fredrick of Hollywood supporter, 2h, you know that.

For that matter, I have never been a Hillary supporter.

How’s the underside of the toilet rim looking for you?

You have always been a Hillary supporter. Your sad little attempt to denying reality yet again is simply sad. Your Candidate is circling the toilet bowl, and you are licking it clean in front of her.

It must be tough to be you right about now.
