The two CIA recruiters heading the meeting appeared to be caught completely off guard. They packed up and began to leave, followed first by a few of the students who had come for the recruiting session, and then by the entire clown-and-student insurgency, which proceeded to disrupt every attempt at meeting in other parts of UCSB’s U-Cen, or University Center, building, by surrounding CIA agents and confronting them with a battery of questioning and shame, making it clear that torturers will not be tolerated at UC Santa Barbara. When it was apparent that any attempt at recruitment would fail, the meeting dispersed and one agent was escorted off the university by the chanting, confrontational insurgency.
When it was clear that the agent was no longer a threat to impressionable University students, the crowd returned to the U-Cen to forcibly eject the other agent, only to discover that he had already left as well. The former meeting room was occupied and used for a networking and debriefing session, where the insurgency was able to use the energy of the event to lay down the foundations for future resistance.

Nothing says “freedom” like preventing people from giving a presentation to people who want to hear it.

This really is an extremist blog. Anyone who doesn't agree with you is leftist but, you are so far out of the realm of conservatism that you define a new term. Rather than calling you NAZIs, we'll call you the Liberal Right.

You are very liberal in your eagerness to give up everything this country stands for and it's not clear what you're willing to do this for.

Anyone who would object to this country's representatives torturing people is being about as conservative as you can get. It goes back to the good old days before our leaders sold out, knew right from wrong, and still had American values.

We, the conservatives, don't want to hear any unAmerican messages from nutty Iranian leaders, NAZIs, or anyone who would condone torture or, in any other way, violate human rights.

This was a recruiting session, not water boarding training session. These CIA representatives had all the legal rights granted by the American government to hold their meeting in a civil environment. They were the ones who had their civil right violated. If you were a "real" conservative you would recognize the difference.

Personally, I think these agencies should quit bothering with their recruiting on campus in hostile schools. They could just as easily advertise when they plan to recruit and hold it in a secure facility. That way the protestors would be kept at bay. Let the interested students come to them instead. Simply arrange one-on-one meetings at various times over a longer period of time.

There is a perfectly respectable means of dealing with the self-righteous leftwing gnats at places like UCSB. Its called the Solomon Amendment (1996). If the school itself offers a hostile environment to federal recruiters, military or civilian, then federal funds to the school are cut off.

As for those gnats themselves, this is really little more than juvenile street theater at its most pathetic. Not one of these self-styled moralists, or any of their assorted supporters, has yet to explain a viable alternative means of extracting necessary intelligence information from the illegal combatant detainees. When they can do that, then perhaps the grown-ups should listen to them. Not in the meantime.

This is what torture is: not the weak, watered-downed (no pun intended)techniques we use for interrogations. Only in America could a bunch of mushy-heads convince themselves that stuff at Gitmo, Abu Ghraib, and waterboarding is/was torture. The left doesn't need to be quiet, they just need to get the hell out of the way and let everyone else do the heavy lifting like they usually do.

If the left had ANY consistency to their talking-points they would be denouncing the "protestors" as a bunch of fascists trying to silence someones message. Of course, on the campus scene, any speech that falls out of far, left-wing doctrine is perfectly okay to try and silence.
