Pro-Life Group Endorses Berg Noting Heitkamp’s History Of Support For Abortion

The Susan B. Anthony List has endorsed Rep. Rick Berg in North Dakota’s Senate race, noting his liberal opponent Heidi Heitkamp’s past endorsement from EMILY’s List during her 2000 race for governor.
SBA is also backing Rep. Rick Berg (R-ND) for U.S. Senate in North Dakota. He will face Heidi Heitkamp in November.
Rep. Rick Berg has served in the U.S. House since 2010 when he defeated an incumbent with 55 percent of the vote. Berg served in the North Dakota state legislature from 1984 to 2001, has earned a 100 percent rating from the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) and is a co-sponsor of the D.C. Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, and the Protect Life Act.
Former Attorney General Heidi Heitkamp was endorsed by EMILY’s List in her 2000 run for Governor.
Heitkamp’s endorsement from EMILY’s list was a major issue in her 2000 campaign. This time around Heitkamp has been a little smarter about support from these far-left groups. EMILY’s list hasn’t given Heitkamp an official endorsement for her 2012 campaign, but they have promoted it to their membership. And Heitkamp has spent time out of state fundraising with leadership from both EMILY’s List and Planned Parenthood.
Neither group has given Heitkamp their full-on embrace, but that’s only because of how important it is that Heitkamp hide her liberalism during her campaign this year. From distancing herself from her party to trying to muddy the water around her outspoken support for Obamacare to this arm’s-length embrace from far-left abortion groups, Heitkamp knows she can’t win in North Dakota campaigning as herself.
