Here’s a thought: How is it that the NBA players involved in the recent brawl between the Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons are punished within a week of their crimes, but we’ve been waiting months for Dan Rather to even be investigated for smearing a sitting President with forged documents in the days before a national election?
And what about Sandy Berger? Remember that story? A former national security adviser for the Clinton administration stole classified intelligence documents from a secure reading room in the days before a government commission (the 9/11 Commission) was set to review that very same intelligence. It was big news at the time, but what ever happened to Berger? Have you heard any news about an investigation? Because I certainly haven’t. Last I heard he was being “probed” over the matter, but nothing since.
It seems like there is a double-standard here. Why can’t we hold major public and political figures as responsible for their actions as we hold professional athletes?

I think there is a difference, because violence is easier to prove and much quicker to be punished. Had Rather and his co-workers busted into Fox News headquarters and started an all out brawl, there would definitely be immediate repercussions.

I also don’t think there is a double-standard between political figures and sports stars. Does anyone remember O.J. verdict? If anything the double-standard is between people like them and average, every-day Americans like you an me.
