President Bush: “I Believe We Will Drive Electric Cars One Of These Days”
Yesterday Scott Hennen interviewed former president George W. Bush and asked him about energy independence. Bush said that oil plays such as North Dakota’s Bakken oil fields were important for the nation’s energy independence, but that one day the nation will be driving electric cars:
Bush was a guest on the Scott Hennen Show and said “There is a significant oil and gas plays were viewed as non-productive reservoirs, shale plays, like the Bakken in North Dakota or the Barnett Shale here in Texas.” “To be dependent on sources of energy from parts of the world that don’t like us puts us in a position of weaker national security, so I am encouraged by these oil and natural gas plays.”
He said that dependence will end in its current form but there will be other concerns in the future “over time our habits will change. I believe we will drive electric cars one of these days and therefore the question is where will we get that electricity from? It will continue to be a mixture of gas and coal but we need to be smarter about nuclear power.”

One would hope that Bush isn’t signaling support for the Obama administration’s endless subsidies of electric cars but rather just voicing his opinion on where the free market will steer the nation in terms of transportation.
