Predictable: Liberals Heaping Scorn, Derision On Tax Day Tea Parties

Get the scoop on the North Dakota tea parties here.

As tax day looms, and America readies for the tea parties scheduled to be held that day, the liberal left is reacting about as you might expect them to.  They’re claiming that the parties are a “sham and a fraud.”

The Atlantic’s Chris Good is shocked to learn that there are some conservative activists helping to organize the events.  MSNBC’s Chris Matthews called them “anti-government” rallies.  And CNN/The Washington Post’s Howard Kurtz mocked Fox News for devoting coverage to the events.

Frankly, given how often Fox News dominates CNN and the rest of cable news in ratings, perhaps Kurtz and the rest of the liberal media shouldn’t be casting stones at Fox’s coverage choices.  And besides, if Fox didn’t cover the tea party rallies, who would?

But what’s funny is that I don’t remember this level of suspicion and derision lumped upon the anti-war rallies of the last several years?  (Rallies largely organized by propped-up front groups for some communist/socialist groups most Americans would find extremely objectionable.)  I don’t remember anyone in the media questioning the validity of the illegal immigrant protests from the last few years.  Or the gay protests.  Or the “million man march” protests.

It seems as though the only time a protest movement is worthy of scorn and derision is when it’s a conservative cause and not a liberal cause.

Also, in the video above Kurtz suggests that the Fox News personalities who have taken to covering the tea parties have all been coordinated by some sort of Rupert Murdoch-controlled conservative cabal (because the idea that Fox might be covering these popular rallies for fame and profit just wouldn’t make sense to the dying liberal media, I guess) and yet over the last several day the liberal response to the tea parties has developed among a whole spectrum of liberal media outlets surprisingly quickly.  It’s almost like the response to the tea parties has been coordinated.

Or maybe it’s not coordinated.  Maybe all these liberals in the media are just shocked to see a nationwide protest of people who aren’t playing victims and who aren’t asking for anything from the government but just want to be left alone.

Frankly, I think they’re afraid more than anything else.
