Pomeroy Retirement Watch: Earl Says He Wouldn’t Take Life Insurance Job

Rumors that Rep. Pomeroy would be retiring rather than facing re-election, fanned by news that Rep. Pomeroy was seeking a golden parachute into the life insurance industry, have been circulating for weeks now. Now, after repeated evasions, Rep. Pomeroy is finally (allegedly) coming clean and saying that he will, in fact, be running for re-election and would turn down the life insurance job if offered.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Rep. Earl Pomeroy says he would refuse a job as president of a lobbying group that represents the life insurance industry. …
In a telephone interview with the Associated Press on Friday, Pomeroy said he is running for re-election, and he would decline the insurance job if it were offered to him.
At a news conference earlier, Pomeroy was asked three times if he would refuse to take the job. He did not answer directly.

So is Pomeroy really in the race or is this just another evasion? I’m not exactly sure we’ll know until he accepts his party’s nomination to run for re-election.
Regardless, it’s certainly not kicking off what promises to be a tough re-election year for Pomeroy off with a positive note.

Happy to see Pomeroy still wants a health care bill. That should be an end to his political career…Still not listening to the people!

    Your the best, TW.

He might just win re-election. What do you suppose will happen to his insurance lobbying job when the democrats lose congress?

  • sayanything-43

He said he wouldn’t vote for the Pelosi health care bill.

Maybe he’ll take the insurance gig just to keep the conversation going.

Sad as it is to say, that lobbying stuff is pretty bi-partisan in that a lot of the partsian mud-slinging we see is just for our benefit. When they’re all in that proverbial “smoky back room” they’re all pals.

he is going to run for re-election. mark it down.

I’m tending toward that as well. Before this I was thinking “he might not run.” Now I’m thinking “he probably will.”

Why does anybody care what he says if he votes for the bill 60% of North Dakota will oust him and if he doesn’t vote to kill it 40% will vote for him… He loses either way so he may as well take the new gig, cause his old employers aren’t offering him a new job… just his buddies
