Poll: Americans Flat Out Disagree With Obama And Democrats On Guantanamo Bay

It’s a near across the board disagreement. Americans overwhelmingly oppose closing the detention center. They oppose bringing the detainees to America. And they feel that the detention center has made our country safer, not less safe as so many on the left have claimed.

Americans are overwhelmingly opposed to closing the detention center for suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay and moving some of the detainees to prisons on U.S. soil, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds.
By more than 2-1, those surveyed say Guantanamo shouldn’t be closed. By more than 3-1, they oppose moving some of the accused terrorists housed there to prisons in their own states. [...]
In the survey, Americans were inclined to accept the argument by Cheney and former president George W. Bush that the detention center had made the United States safer. By 40%-18%, they said the prison had strengthened national security rather than weakened it.
Those who want the prison to remain open feel more strongly on the subject that those who want to close it. A 54% majority of those polled say the prison shouldn’t be closed, and that they’ll be upset if the administration moves forward to close it.

Guantanamo Bay was a handy issue for liberals like Obama to use to fire up far-left liberal base in the Democrat party. But mainstream Americans are not far-left liberals. And ultimately it’s to those Americans that Obama has to answer.
Once again, Obama is learning that it’s a lot easier to be a candidate complaining about Gitmo. It’s a lot harder to be the President in charge of Gitmo.

Medal of Honor Awardees Bud Day talks of Torture.

Thanks for the “heads up” on the Medal of Honor spots. Some of my friends
have seen it already and mentioned it. I sent a copy of my book to Fox News in D.C., and wanted Sean Hannity to be able to talk about what torture really is. He has no one on his side to talk about torture..Who has been tortured. He is free to quote from the many
illustrations that I provided in my book “Duty, Honor, Country” I got shot down over North Vietnam in 1967…a sq commander.
After I returned in 1973… I published 2 books that dealt a lot with “real torture” in Hanoi. Our make believe president is branding our country as a bunch of torturers when he has no idea what torture is.
****e.g. as to me…put thru a mock execution because I would not respond…pistol whipped on the head…same event… Couple of days later…hung by my feet all day.
I escaped and got recaptured a couple of weeks later… I got shot and recaptured. Shot was OK…what happened after was not.
They marched me to Vinh.. Put me in the rope trick…almost pulled my arms out of the
sockets. Beat me on the head w/ a little wooden rod until my eyes were swelled shut, and my unshot unbroken hand a pulp.
Next day hung me by the arms…rebroke my right wrist…wiped out the nerves in my arms that control the hands..rolled my fingers up into a ball.
Only left the slightest movement of my Left forefinger. So I started answering some
incredible lies.
Sent me to Hanoi strapped to a barrel of gas in the back of a truck.
Hanoi..on my knees..rope trick again. Beaten by a big fool.
Into leg irons on a bed in Heartbreak Hotel.
Much kneeling–hands up at Zoo.
Really bad beating for refusing to condemn Lyndon Johnson.
Several more kneeling events.
Could see my knee bone thru kneeling holes.
There was an escape from the annex to the Zoo. I was the Senior Officer of a large
building, because of escape..they started a mass torture of all commanders.
I think it was July 7, 1969..they started beating me w/a car fan belt. In first 2 days I took over 300 strokes..then stopped counting because I never thought I would live thru it.
They continued day-nite torture to get me to confess to a non-existent part in the escape.
This went on for at least 3 days. On my knees..fan belting.. cut open my scrotum w/ fan
belt stroke and opened up both knee holes again.
My fanny looked like hamburger..I could not lie on my back..
They tortured me into admitting that I was in on the escape..and that my 2 room-mates knew about it.
The next day I denied the lie.
They commenced torturing me again with 3- 6- or 9 strokes of the fan belt every day from about July 11 or 12th..to 14 October 1969. I continued to refuse to lie about my
roommates again.
Now, the point of this is that our make-believe president has declared to the world that
we (U. S.) are a bunch of torturers.. thus it will be OK to torture us next time when they catch us….because that is what the U.S. does.
Note – this is obvious bullshit because with the exceptions of the Germans in WW II,
Americans captured have been routinely tortured and/or executed in every war since. Our
make-believe president is a know nothing fool who thinks that pouring a little water on some one’s face, or hanging a pair of women’s pants over an Arabs head is TORTURE. He is a meathead.
I just talked to Medal Of Honor holder Leo Thorsness who was also in my sq in jail ..as was John McCain..and we agree that McCain does not speak for the POW group when he
claims that Al Ghrib was torture.. or that “water boarding” is torture.
Our president and those fools around him who keep bad mouthing our great country are a
disgrace to the United States. Please pass this info on to Sean Hannity. He is free to use
it to point out the stupidity of the claims that water boarding ..which has no after effect..is torture.
If it got the Arab to cough up the story about how he planned the attack on the twin towers in NYC…hurrah for the guy who poured the water.

While public opinion on this subject should matter to Obama, I don’t think it does at all. For one, he needs to keep pandering to his far-left base if he wants to keep collecting the big time donations from them. For another, his ego will never let him back down on this one. His narcissism and misguided self-assurance will simply not allow him to admit he’s wrong.

Now you’re getting it.

The question is, why do they think that way, can they be dissuaded from thinking that way, and if not can others be inoculated against it? With people Obama’s age, they’ve been high on getting their way for so long its a lost cause. Look at Clinton or Kennedy. We can however teach the next generations and that starts at home.

I strongly recommend these books for a good foundation. Without a sense of self and society and culture and civilization, that bible that everyone thumps on is just a misunderstood and easily abused piece of literature that will breed contempt in children by way of obvious hypocrisy by the adults. They need more than just an “I said so” attitude, they need someone to relate the very real reasons for society to be the way it is, or at least the way we like to say it should be.

If they don’t believe in the enterprise, they won’t bother having it. If we like the constitution, then these classics which were known to the founders as part of their education are advisable to teach.
